Youth News

Once again to celebrate the continued rise and success of the youth section at Swanage we'll be holding our end of season Presentation and Fun Day up at the cricket club on Sunday the 6th August. It all starts around 11 with various games, stalls and activities including a chance to bowl at adult players and coaches in the nets, a bouncy castle and gladiator challenge. The presentations for all the teams will start around 12:30 in front of the pavilion.Food and drink will be available throughout the day, starting early on with our now-famous bacon baps, teas, coffees and cakes and then a BBQ after the presentations. The bar will, of course, be open!

The afternoon sees a new event with the cricket club sports day , featuring egg and spoon, 3 legged race, obstacle race etc, all with a cricketing twist. Any help, whether it be giving a hand on the day or bringing along raffle or tombola prizes or a cake is, as always, hugely appreciated, as has been your support for the cricket club throughout 2017. Look forward to seeing you there, Tim.

PS We have now finished training for the season and will begin again in the autumn.

Swanage Women and Girls

After the historic, but cold, evening back in May when our first ever girl's team travelled to Winton it was the turn of Swanage to host their first home game. In a double first our Women's team also welcomed Winton so there were two games running at the same time. The Girls gave a hugely improved performance only losing by 27 runs - see the full report in the Youth Results section.

After their first outing at the Dorset Women and Girl's tournament in Wimborne we'd arranged a friendly with Winton Women. Captain Tyler won the toss and decided to bowl first. Winton got off to a good start as their openers ran well between the wickets and struck a number of boundaries. Good overs from Kayleigh and Tracy kept the score down before debutant Katherine carried on the good work. A wicket from Tyler meant the scoring had slowed right down and that Swanage were well in the match. Swanage's bowling really improved second time around with Ena only conceding 3 runs and Jo just 4. A run out in Holly's over meant the score after 12 overs was 282. A wicket from Katherine with the last ball of the innings left Winton on 308 - 3 from their 16 overs.

Lou(6) and Jo(12) on her debut got Swanage off to a good start with some great running and a couple of boundaries. Holly and Ena found runs hard to come by but benefited from lots of wides and no balls as Swanage reached 236 at the half way point. Kayleigh and Tracy kept the score building leaving Katherine and Tyler to round off the innings. Some great running and boundary hitting got Swanage close to the Winton total as they ended on 285 - 3 just 23 runs short of victory. Katherine top scored on 22 including 3 fours and a six.

Winton 308 - 2
Swanage 285 - 3
Winton won by 23 runs

Practice is on Thursday evenings from 6:15pm onwards
