PROMOTION AGAIN FOR RON BARKER'S TEAM
Congratulations to Ron Barker and his team as the Sunday 1st XI gain promotion to Sunday League 2 after victory over visitors Ashmore on Sunday. Dave Dyer (86) and Chris Leak (5-11) provided the performances of the day. Unfortunately the Saturday 1sts and Sunday 2nds lost their respective fixures though the Sunday 2nds gave unbeaten Puddletown a fright after reducing them to 64-7 in a low scoring match. The match reports are available here and a sumary of the league standings can be found by scrolling further down this page.
Thank you.

PLAYER AWARDS - Voting now started
Peter Clark is in the process of issuing voting slips to players so they can vote on this season's awards. Votes are required for the Batsman, Bowler and Fielder of the Year for each of the senior teams and the overall award for most improved player across the club. Votes must be returned to Peter Clark by 31 August at the latest.
The awards evening will be held on Sunday September 7th at the Pavillion. The awards for the Colts will commence at around 8pm with senior awards following on at around 8.30pm. A BBQ will also be available.
Decisions decisions............
Although umpiring is a thankless task it is hoped the following observations will help bowlers know the laws when they bowl. Law 24.5 states that a no ball cannot be called if any part of the front foot is behind the popping crease during the delivery stride, whether grounded or raised.
More interestingly, more and more non striking batsmen are now looking to steal quick runs by 'backing up' too far down the wicket when the bowler is running in to bowl. Although most think they are safe to do this law 42 -15 states that the bowler is permitted, before entering his delivery stride, to attempt to run out the non-striker in such circumstances. The key is if the bowler is in his delivery stride but the rule highlights that batsmen are not immune from dismissal if they stray too far, too quickly.
The above laws were taken from the Lords website and so should be up to date in their contents and meaning. More details and remaining laws can be accessed from the Lords website here.
Team Wear
Swanage cricket caps and tracksuit tops (in team colours) are now available to purchase from the club at £5 and £15 respectively. Both are embroidered with the Swan logo and pictures will follow shortly.
NETS - Outdoor nets for the senior teams will run, weather permitting, each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the season. Nets start around 6-6.30pm and usually continue to dusk.
