This weeks results (28th and 29th August) - The Swans ended their league campaigns with two comfortable wins as the Saturday side beat Dorchester 2nds by 9 wickets and the Sunday 2nds beat Lychett Matravers by 10 wickets. Star performance came from Francis Kerins who struck a wonderful 57 not out at Dorchester as the Swans overcame the home side's 111 all out (Ron Barker 3-12, G Bradfield 3-20). Ian Booth ended his fantastic season with 43 not out. On Sunday the 2nd XI completed a resounding win against Lychett Matravers after Steve Carpenter's 4-17 ensured they were bowled out for 43. Mike Salmon (35 not out) then made light of the target as the runs were knocked off without fuss in just over 4 overs.
The final league positions are shown in the table below.

2009 Highlights.......
The highlight of 2009 saw Ron Barker's team gain promotion to the top tier of the Dorset Sunday League. This represented the teams 3rd consecutive promotion and speaks volumes for the way Ron has lead the team and for the way the younger players have performed over the seasons.

Decisions decisions............
Although umpiring is a thankless task it is hoped the following observations will help bowlers know the laws when they bowl. Law 24.5 states that a no ball cannot be called if any part of the front foot is behind the popping crease during the delivery stride, whether grounded or raised.
More interestingly, more and more non striking batsmen are now looking to steal quick runs by 'backing up' too far down the wicket when the bowler is running in to bowl. Although most think they are safe to do this law 42 -15 states that the bowler is permitted, before entering his delivery stride, to attempt to run out the non-striker in such circumstances. The key is if the bowler is in his delivery stride but the rule highlights that batsmen are not immune from dismissal if they stray too far, too quickly.
The above laws were taken from the Lords website and so should be up to date in their contents and meaning. More details and remaining laws can be accessed from the Lords website here.
