This weekend saw the Swans enjoy another clean sweep of wins for their senior sides as the Saturday XI and Sunday 1sts win gripping away encounters at Cerne Valley and Shillingstone with Paul Higham (88no) and Ian Booth (56) staring with the bat in their respective games. The Sunday 2nds also enjoy another comfortable victory at home to Ibberton where Mike Wells and Steve Bishop post 65 and 51 no respectively with Bishop also taking 5-10 with the ball.

2008 Highlights.......
The highlight of 2008 saw Ron Barker's team gain promotion to Sunday League 2 after victory over visitors Ashmore on the final day of the season. However, this was very closely followed by Matt Thomas's record breaking weeked in June which saw him score over 300 runs, with consecutive 100's and the club's highest ever score of 191 not out. Matt's exploits rightly saw him feature in the Bournemouth Echo as well as get a mention in Wisden.

Decisions decisions............
Although umpiring is a thankless task it is hoped the following observations will help bowlers know the laws when they bowl. Law 24.5 states that a no ball cannot be called if any part of the front foot is behind the popping crease during the delivery stride, whether grounded or raised.
More interestingly, more and more non striking batsmen are now looking to steal quick runs by 'backing up' too far down the wicket when the bowler is running in to bowl. Although most think they are safe to do this law 42 -15 states that the bowler is permitted, before entering his delivery stride, to attempt to run out the non-striker in such circumstances. The key is if the bowler is in his delivery stride but the rule highlights that batsmen are not immune from dismissal if they stray too far, too quickly.
The above laws were taken from the Lords website and so should be up to date in their contents and meaning. More details and remaining laws can be accessed from the Lords website here.
