Saturday 2 May

On Saturday Swanage played host to Wimborne in their opening division 2 encounter. Wimborne won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a fine start with a 64 run opening partnership. Their progress was halted by an excellent spell of seam bowling by Ben Baczala who took 3 wickets including a double wicket maiden. Swans made further in-roads through a brace of wickets by Ricky King to restrict the visitors to 152-6. Despite the hosts best efforts Wimborne posted a competitive total of 227-9 from their 45 overs. Swans set off in pursuit and were moving along serenely at 63-1 until skipper Ian Booth was brilliantly caught out for a well constructed 32. This led to a middle order collapse which left Swans reeling at 121-8. It was left to Lewis Kirby and David Haines who made 25 and 30 respectively to bring some respectability to the hosts total.

Sunday 3 May
On Sunday, the 1st XI entertained Sturminster in their initial Division 2 match, the visitors batted first and were soon in trouble due to a hostile opening spell form Ricky King who claimed 3 wickets, ably supported by Baczala who took a couple of wickets as well as Tim Edgar and Pete Barker who both claimed a wicket a piece. Swans fielded brilliantly with Ian Perry and Lewis Kirby excelling, this enabled swans to dismiss the visitors for just 151. In reply, Swans got off to a flying start with Mike Nash and Nick Bishop putting on 41 for the first wicket before Bishop fell for a rapid 29. Nash was joined by Ian Booth, together they added 81 to take the hosts to the brink of victory. Nash fell for a solid 31 but Booth went on to score a majestic 73 not out, guiding Swans to a comprehensive 6 wicket victory.

The 2nd XI suffered a 5 run defeat in a high scoring game away to Winton 3rds as the home side benefited from a couple of dropped catches to post 230-4. Ashley King proved the pick of the Swans bowlers in returning 2-38. The Swans reply was solid enough with Pete Dyer (38), Dan White (32) Adam King (27) all making inroads and with the score 75-2 from 15 overs the game was nicely poised. Ben Cross (31) and a fine knock from debutant Jack Hector (48) took the Swans ever closer to the total but with the pressure beginning to tell and with overs running out the visitors fell agonizingly short on 225-8.

Saturday 10th May

On Saturday Swanage travelled to Bridport. After winning the toss and choosing to bat the Swans

got off to a good start with a half century opening stand between Nick troy and Lewis Kirby. Kirby

fell for 30. Troy was joined by the in-form captain Ian Booth, together they took the score past

100 before Troy was out for a sublime 48. This led to a middle order collapse but despite this te

innings was held together by Ben Baczala who made a very useful 29 enabling Swanage to reach

a competitive total of 181-8. In reply the Hosts were soon in trouble due to sensation  bowling by

Ricky King who claimed 4 wickets to leave Bridport reeling 55-5. The hosts consolidated and the

lower order made a valiant effort to reach their target until Booth introduced himself and took 4

quick wickets to clinch a nail biting victory for Swanage, by just 9 runs.

Sunday 11th May

On Sunday the 1st X1 travelled to Marnhull, Swanage batted first and got off to a flying start. The

momentum was kept up through a century partnership between Mike Nash and Ian Booth, Nash fell

for a solid 37 leaving Booth to be joined by Ian Perry who struck some lusty blows smashing a

fluent 35, but yet again the star was Booth who was dismissed for a sparkling 82, this included 15

boundaries. This allowed swans to post a competitive total of 235-5. In reply, the hosts were

reduced to 52-4 by an excellent spell of seam bowling by Ben Baczala who took 4 wickets. Despite

this the hosts made steady progress towards their target until Booth took 2 quick wickets, leaving

the last pair needing 18, they made this with just 4 balls to spare. This left Swanage contemplating

an agonising defeat.

The Swans 2nd XI broke club and league records at Days Park on Sunday by amassing 401-6 in

their 45 overs against a wayward but game Broadstone bowling attack. Pete Dyer (48) and Ashley

King (67) set the tone for the home team with a fine opening stand of 127 in less than an hour and

this punishing run rate was kept up by fluent knocks by Dan White (57), Adam King (20) and Steve

Bishop (24). However, a fine partnership of 106 for the 6th wicket between David Haines (70 not

out) and Mike Wells (45) crushed Broadstone's hopes of any recovery and enabled Ben Cross to

bring up the 400 off the last ball. The Broadstone batting reply didn't fare any better than their

bowling and although Jeapes batted well for this 53, Ashley King (2-19), Terry White (3-29) and

Steve Bishop (2-26) saw them all out for 160 to secure a comprehensive win and maximum points

for the Swans.

Saturday May 17th

On Saturday Swanage played hosts' to Blandford. The visitors' batted first and moved along serenely to 105-2; their momentum was stalled by RICKY KING who claimed 3 wickets and BEN BACZALA who took 2. Despite this, the visitors' lower order batted intelligently and still managed to amass a very competitive total of 234-9 off their 45 overs.  In reply, Swanage were soon in trouble at 76-5. The innings was rescued by a fantastic knock of 68 (not out) by the in-form DAN WHITE he received good support from FRANCIS KERINS (29) and BACZALA (27) this enabled Swans' to post a respectable total of 191-9. This defeat leaves Swans' young side with much to contemplate.

Sunday May 18th

On Sunday the 1stXI played WAYFARERS. Swans’ batted first and got off to a solid start through MIKE NASH who made 21 and Lewis Kirby. The momentum of the innings was kept up by a fantastic 130 run partnership between Kirby and the in-form Ian Booth. Booth finally fell for a fluent 59 at which point the innings stuttered. Kirby was then joined by RICKY KING who made a quick-fire 23 together they ensured Swans’ made a competitive total of 200-5 but not before Kirby fell for a spectacular 79. In reply the visitors’ were soon in trouble due to a superb spell of seam bowling from Ben Briscoe who took 3 wickets to help reduce the visitors’ to 59-3. Swans’ continued to field brilliantly and wickets fell at regular intervals with Booth claiming 3 wickets and Skipper Ron Barker who brought himself on to clean up the tail with 4 wickets and record a comprehensive 40 run victory.

The Sunday 2nd XI did not have a fixture.

Saturday 23th May

On Saturday SWANAGE travelled to HAMWORTHY. Swans’ batted first and got off to a brilliant start with a century stand between FRANCIS KERINS and IAN BOOTH together they moved Swans’ along serenely to 109-1 before they both fell in quick succession – BOOTH made 52 and KERINS struck a 47. The innings then stuttered before a fine unbroken partnership between ASHLEY KING and BEN BACZALA who made 29 and 27 respectively to guide Swans’ a competitive total of 182-5.  In reply, the hosts’ were soon in trouble due to a fantastic spell of bowling from RICKY KING who bagged a brace. The hosts’ never recovered from this and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals with BACZALA claiming 3 and BEN BRISCOE 2 ensuring that HAMWORTHY were dismissed for 144.

Sunday 24th May

On Sunday the 1stXI played hosts to OLD BLANDFORDIANS. Swans’ batted first a made a solid start through MIKE NASH who made a fluent 33. The momentum of the innings was kept up by a half-century stand between BACZALA and BRISCOE who made 31 and 37 respectively, however, when they both fell in quick succession the innings fell away and Swans’ were dismissed for a below-par 161. The visitors’ reply started solidly despite a brace of wickets from BRISCOE. Swans’ continued to take wickets with BACZALA and RON BARKER also taking 2 wickets apiece. Despite the hosts’ best efforts the visitors’ got home with one wicket to spare in the last over to condemn Swans’ to their second nail-biting defeat of the season.

Unfortunately the Sunday Second XI also suffered a defeat in their away game to league 6 leaders Pokesdown Willows. Batting first the Swans had to battle hard against a much improved Willows attack and did well to recover from 7-2 with Pete Dyer's 56 showing the way. Although he was helped by Adam King (12), Steve Bishop (19) and Roger Wilcox (15) it took a good knock from Will Hector (21) and a last wicket partnership of 23 to ensure the last batting point was secured.  Hopes of victory were high when the Swans took 2 quick wickets in the Willows reply but a couple of missed chances proved crucial and the home team eventually ran out winners by 5 wickets in the 38th over.  Ashley King's 2-23 from a single spell of 12 overs proved the highlight of the bowling in an otherwise frustrating day of 'what ifs?'.

Saturday 30th May

On Saturday Swanage played hosts' to Winton.  The visitors' batted first and were soon in trouble due to a fine spell of bowling by BEN BRISCOE whose 3 wickets helped reduce Winton to 91-6. The visitors' rallied and despite 4 wickets from RICKY KING Wintons' lower order batted well and enabled them to reach 161. Swans' reply started brightly with a fine half-century partnership between FRANCIS KERINS who made 28 and IAN BOOTH who struck 29 moved Swans' along serenely to 69-1, unfortunately for the hosts' they both fell in quick succession which triggered a middle-order collapse which left Swans' reeling at 120-8. The innings was rescued by a partnership between RICKY KING who made 27 and BRISCOE who struck 36 took Swans' to the brink of victory. However, Swans' fell agonisingly short of their target by just 1 run.

Sunday 31st May

On Sunday, Swans' played hosts to runaway league leaders FERNDOWN. The hosts' were put to the sword by the visitors' 2 Southern league stars' who played brilliantly in a 152 run partnership to help the visitors' to the imperious position of 160-1. Skipper RON BARKER introduced himself and took 4 quick wickets which enabled Swans' to reduce the visitors' to 241-7. In reply, Swans' got off a superb start with an opening stand of 88 between MATT THOMAS who made 38 and MIKE NASH who scored 37. Unfortunately, just like yesterday they both fell in quick succession and Swans' suffered another middle order collapse and were reeling at 130-6. The innings was given some respectability by a partnership between ALLY BOOTH and KING who both made 20 ensuring Swans' reached 171-8.

Although the Sunday 2nd XI toiled bravely in the heat they were ultimately undone by a hard hitting 109 from Old Bournemouthians skipper as the OBs chased down the Swans 202-7 in the 36th over. This undid a fine battling performance with the bat as the Swans recovered from a precarious 30-3 with a 4th wicket partnerhsip of 78 between Adam King (39) and Francis Kerrins (33) and a 6th wicket partnership of 60 between Sam Price (28) and Mike Wells (33no).  The OBs were however largely untroubled by the Swans attack though  Dan White, Sam Price and France Kerrins bowled well to pick up a wicket a piece. Indeed, Price and Kerrins troubled the batsmen and showed a glimmer of what could have been had the Swans been able to get rid of the home skipper early.

Saturday June 6th

Unfortunately there isnt a match report for the Swans away fixture at Witchampton though the home side totalled 320-2 from their alloted overs. A weakened Swans side responded valiently but could only total 193-8 in response.

Sunday June 7th

With e Sunday 1st XI game at Corfe Mullen being called off after 9 overs due to rain all eyes were on the Swans 2nd XI home game against Ferndown.  Unfortunately a strong Ferndown batting line up proved victorious as they totalled 284-4 in a reduced allocation of 35 overs - Chris Carpenter proving the pick of the bowlers with 2-36.  The Swan's reply started positively with Ashley King (28) and Dan White (25) putting on 57 for the opening wicket but the undoubted highlight of the day for the Swans was a wonderful knock of 69 from Charlie Parsons. Despite his best efforts and some stirling support from Steve Bishop (16) and Jack Hector (15) wickets fell reguarly and the Swans finished on 198-7.  Although another unwelcome defeat for Terry White's side it is worth highlighting that they have played all the new League teams in the last few weeks and each of them have been considerabley stronger that their Division 6 status would suggest.

13th June 09

On Saturday Swanage entertained Weymouth in division 2. Weymouth batted first and were restricted to just 46-3 off their first 19 overs due to fantastic opening spells of bowling by Ricky King and Ben Briscoe. Wickets continued to fall regularly WITH Ben Baczala claiming 3 and Ally Booth taking a brace leaving the visitors reeling at 113-7. Unfortunately for the hosts they lost their way and Weymouth’s lower order rallied to reach 171-9. Swans reply started disastrously but was rescued by a stand between Ian Booth (31) and Ricky King (29). However they both fell in quick succession leaving Swans in deep trouble at (88-5). The innings was given some momentum by Ally Booth who struck a brisk 28, although he ran out of partners as the hosts collapsed to 120 all out.

14th June 2009

On Sunday Swanage 1st XI played host to Branksome in Division 2. Swans got off to a flying start with an opening stand of (99) between Matt Thomas and Lewis Kirby. Kirby fell for a solid (21). Thomas accelerated brilliantly and completed a fantastic century finally falling for a majestic 113 which included 20 boundaries. The momentum of the innings was kept up be a half century partnership between stand in skipper Mike Nash and Ricky King who struck (28) and (29) respectively, enabling Swans to post a competitive total of 234-7. The visitors reply started positively but progress was halted by Pete Barker who claimed a brace. The Visitors continued to bat well but were pegged back by Ricky King, Sam Price, and Lewis Kirby who all claimed a wicket, but the hero was Ian Booth who came back on to claim 3 late wickets to help Swans register a nail biting 4 run victory.

The Sunday 2nds got back to winning ways at Portland after bowling out the home side for a below par 159, Roger Wilcox, Steve Bishop and Terry White shared the bowling honours as each took 3 wickets apiece.  The Swans reply however started badly and at 32-4 it took a patient but impressive knock from Charlie Parsons (41) to steady the innings.  Although the game could still have swung either way on his dismissal a tremendous 6th wicket partnership of 83 between Jack Otter (24) and man of the match Steve Bishop (60) saw the visitors home in the 35th over.

Saturday 20 June

On Saturday at Branksome, Ian Booth struck a majestic 136 not out to guide Swans to a much needed 5 wicket win. Branksome batted first and looked set for a huge total when they reached 109-1 off 20 overs. The game changed when Booth introduced himself and Pete Kirby to bowl their off spin. They both bowled beautifully claiming 3 wickets a piece to help restrict the hosts to a below par 204-8 off their 45 overs.   Swans reply was dominated by Booth whom shared a succession of partnerships as the innings gained momentum, firstly 69 with Francis Kerins, 41 with Mike Nash and the match winning stand of 77 with Ricky King who played a superb cameo knock of 31. Fittingly Booth finished the match with a towering 6- his 27th boundary, in the last over to complete a memorable victory.

Sunday 21 June

On Sunday The first XI made the long trip to Bradford Abbas, the hosts batted first and were under pressure right form the beginning due to fantastic bowling by Swans opening pair of the returning county star Paul Higham and Ricky King. They both took 3 wickets to leave the hosts reeling at 121-6; the hosts low order batted valiantly and managed to get there total up to a respectable 197 but not before Higham had come back and completed a 5 wicket haul. In Reply Swans batted positively from the outset with a century stand between Higham and Booth who made 41. Higham was joined by Lewis Kirby, together they guided Swans to a comprehensive 7 wicket win. Higham finished unbeaten with a majestic 93 which included 15 boundaries and Kirby weighed in with a solid 35.

A magnificent bowling performance from Ashley King for the Sunday 2nd XI blew away visitors Wayfarers for a meagre 32 at Days Park on Sunday. King, who took a stunning 7-17, was quite simply unplayable and after he and Richard Perry (3-12) reduced the visitors for 1-4 the Swans went on to defend their below par score of 150 with ease.  That they had this to defend owed much to Nick Troy (30) and Peter Dyer (15) who opened the innings with a 50 partnership before a batting collapse left the Swans rocking at 85-7. However, Roger Wilcox (38 not out), aided by some sensible batting from the lower order did gave the bowlers  something to defend even though the Swans only managed to bat for 33 overs.  However, Ashley King's performance rightly stole the show as did the fact that all but 2 off the Wayfarers batsmen were bowled.

Saturday 27th June

The Saturday XI won a hard fought but gripping encounter at Cerne Abbas after another fantastic innings from Paul Higham (88 not out) helped rescue the Swans from a rocky 14-3. Although Higham looked to dominate from the outset and struck 12 boundaries in his knock he was ably supported by Francis Kerins (22) and Andy Booth (16) as the Swans clawed their way to a defendable 160 all out. Higham and Ricky King then bowled a suberb opening spell to limit the home side to 26-2 from 15 overs and this put great pressure on the home side to improve their run rate.  Ian and Andy Booth then continued the fine work to grab 3-49 and 2-9 respectively as the the home team tried to regain the initiative. However, it was too little too late as the returning King then swept through the tail to claim 4-19 as the home side were bowled out for 139.

Sunday 28th June

Match report for the Sunday 1sts coming soon....

Swanage Sunday 2nds enjoyed a comprehensive 212 run victory against an under strength Ibberton side at Days Park on Sunday.  Mike Wells (65) and Sam Price (41) began cautiously as the ball darted around but were soon into their stride in a partnership worth 104, Price in particular driving fluently through the covers.  After their departure Steve Bishop (51) and Mike Wheeler (29) then took advantage of a tiring attack as the Swans reached 241-6 from their 45 overs.   Unfortunately for Ibberton their reply never got going as an inspired Steve Bishop followed up his batting performance to bowl with both pace and accuraccy to take 5 - 10 as the visitors were dismissed for 29.

Saturday 4th July

On Saturday, Swanage travelled to Wimborne in Division 2. Swanage got off to a sound start through Pete Dyer who made a solid 28. When he departed Swans lost 3 quick wickets the innings was resumed by Ben Briscoe and Ricky King who shared a half century stand with Briscoe smashing 39 and King 36. The momentum of the innings was kept up by another fine 50 run stand between Ben Baczala who scored 32 and Charlie Parsons who struck an excellent 36 not out. This helped guide Swanage to a respectable 209-9. Wimborne’s reply started positively and despite 2 wickets from Ricky King the hosts’ continued to bat fluently and chased down their target with 15 overs to spare, securing a comprehensive victory.

Sunday 5th July

On Sunday, the 1st XI travelled to Sturminster in Division 2. Swanage made early in roads into the hosts batting through an excellent spell of bowling by Pete Barker who took 3 wickets. The pressure was kept on the hosts by superb bowling by Ashley King and Ben Baczala who both also claimed 3 wickets, this helped skittle out the hosts for just 156. In Reply Swans batted brilliantly with a 125 run opening stand between Matt Thomas and Nick Bishop. Bishop fell for a fluent 48. Thomas went on to score a fantastic 96 which included 18 boundaries- he was caught on the boundary heading for his century. It was left to Mike Nash and Ashley King to guide Swanage to a comprehensive 8 wicket victory.

Unfortunately the Sunday 2nd XI lost their home fixture against Winton 3rds by an agonising 6 runs - agonising as the runs could easily have been saved by a more adept fielding performance as too many quick singles slipped by.  The game however was one which fluctuated wildly as although Winton scored quickly by bringing up the 50 in the 10th over, they also lost wickets regularly and at 118-6 they were struggling.  However, some quick running and positive batting from the lower order enabled them to reach a more competitive 183 all out. Steve Carpenter was the pick of the bowlers returning 3-46 from his 12 over but Terry White (3-45) and Mike Wells (3-40) also featured well.  The Swans reply started steadily with Peter Dyer (28) and Mike Wells (17) but a flurry of quick wickets against relatively innocuous bowling reduced the Swans from 74-2 to 106-7.  Roger Wilcox however then dug deep and with Ben Cross, who hit a fluent 31, they kept the scoreboard ticking ever closer to the required total.  Cross then fell but with Wilcox marshalling the tail brilliantly the ever chatty Winton team started to contemplate defeat. It wasn’t to be however as Wilcox was the last wicket to fall at 177 all out, even though his heroic 40 deserved much, much more.

Swanage Cricket Club would like to congratulate player,  Paul Higham on his outstanding achievement of representing Oxford University in the varsity match at Lords last week. He bowled a great spell of seam bowling claiming a wicket in his 7 over spell in a comprehensive victory for Oxford.

Saturday 11 July

All Dorset league matches were abandoned due to rain.

Sunday 12 July

On Sunday, Swanage first XI entertained Marnhull in their latest Division 2 encounter. The visitors batted first and started positively scoring constantly at more than 5 runs an over. Ben Baczala and Ron Barker put the brakes on  the visitors batting in the middle order by claiming 3 wickets a piece. Marnhull continued to accelerate, reaching 246-9 despite Higham claiming 3 late wickets.  Swans reply started brightly with Matt Thomas making 33. Ian Booth batted fantastically sharing a partnership of 77 with Ricky King who made a fluent 21. Booth went on to make a spectacular 96, including 15 boundaries: he was brilliantly caught going for his century. When he departed the momentum of the innings was continued by a 70 run stand between Lewis Kirby (25) and Ben Baczala (42). Despite their best efforts Swanage fell agonisingly 7 runs short of their target.

Fortunately the Swans Sunday 2nd XI  won their away fixture at Broadstone though not quite as comfortably as the winning margin of 83 runs suggests.  Batting first the Swans overcame the loss of 3 quick wickets for 22 runs with an patient innings from Jack Hector (26 runs in 27 overs) and valuable contributions from Steve Bishop (31), Josh Williams (21), Roger Wilcox (17) and Terry White (13) enabled the Swans to reach 153 all out from their 45 overs.    This, however, was still well within reach of a resurgent Broadstone batting line up that had scored over 200 runs in each of their last 4 innings.  But, their main dangerman (a former premier league bat), was deceived in Peter Barker’s opening over and he was quickly followed by several others to leave Broadstone reeling at 7-4.  There was no coming back from this and with Steve Bishop and Pete Barker collecting 3 wickets apiece and Will Hector grabbing a brace Broadstone was dismissed for 70.

Saturday 18th July

No play - rain

Sunday 19th July

No play - rain

The Wareham friendly match proved to be a largely inter-club match due to lack of players from wareham and the cancellation of the Sunday 1st XI fixture. As a result the Wareham side was captained by Ron Barker and featured Ricky King and Jon Salt amonsgt other notable Swans.  The Sunday 2nd XI team however ran out winners with Adam King (74) and Steve Bishop (75) scoring quick runs.  The game was however notable for a fine 100 from Mike Salmon from the Wareham XI.

Saturday 25th July

No match report for the match though the home team ran out winners in a close contest with Dave Dyer (65) Ian Booth (56) and Wayne Skeet (30) featuring witht he bat and Ashleys Kings fine 4-34 being the pick of the bowling.

Sunday 26th July

Both Sunday matches were abandoned due to the rain.

Saturday 1st August

The match against Winton was cancelled due to rain.

Sunday 2nd August

Due to the inclement weather on Saturday the focus was on Swans’ two Sunday teams. The 1stXI travelled to runaway leaders FERNDOWN in Division 2. Swans’ batted first and got off to a flying start with a century opening stand between Matt Thomas and Charlie WYCHERLEY. WYCHERLEY was unluckily adjudged LBW for a fluent 41. The momentum of the innings was kept-up by a half-century partnership between Thomas and Ian Booth. Unfortunately, they both fell in quick succession Booth made a solid 31 and Thomas struck a sparkling 66. Swans’ then lost 4 wickets for just 5 runs but were indebted to a crucial partnership between MIKE NASH and MIKE SALMON to enable them to post a competitive total of 226-8.  The hosts’ were restricted to just 33 runs off their first 17 OVERS due to 2 great spells of seam bowling by Paul HIGHAM and Ben BACZALA. The pressure was kept-up by a great spell of bowling by Ricky King who bagged 4 wickets. Despite this, FERNDOWNS’ 2 Southern League stars’ batted brilliantly and took the hosts’ to the brink of victory.  Their partnership was broken by a superb piece of fielding by King which was followed up by a spectacular caught and bowled by HIGHAM. Fittingly, the last 2 wickets were claimed by HIGHAM and BACZALA to record a memorable 7 run victory to keep the promotion dream alive.

A magnificant 140 run partnership between Mike Wells and Adam King saw the Swans Sunday 2nd XI comfortably beat promotion contenders Old Bournemouthians at Days Park on Sunday.  Coming together at 52-2 and chasing 237 to win Wells (75) and King (90) began steadily enough but then began to mix quick singles and some superb strokeplay to hit 27 boundaries between them. King in particular punished anything short with some big hitting but sadly fell just shy of a well deserved maiden ton as the Swans secured victory in only the 35 over.  This capped a fine comeback from the Swans as earlier in the day the visitors rattled up 116 for the first wicket in only 15 overs and were looking well set to score 300+. However, the team kept plugging away and wickets from Sam Price (3-31), Mike Wells (2-12) and Terry White (2-37) saw the visitors all out for 236.

Saturday 8th August

Swanage played to Witchampton in their latest division 1 encounter. The visitors batted first and were soon in trouble due to fine bowling from Ricky King and Paul Higham who both claimed a brace of wickets to reduce the visitors to 75-4. The middle order rallied to give the innings momentum until the introduction of Pete Kirby’s left arm spin which ripped through the tail to claim three wickets for just 10 runs, to help skittle out the visitors for just 133. In reply, Swanage appeared to be moving along serenely with Ian Booth and Lewis Kirby batting solidly. However when they both fell in quick succession Swans collapsed from 43-3 to 76-9. The last wicket pair of Ben Baczala and Pete Barker. who struck 37 and 32 respectively batted brilliantly to take Swans to the brink of an incredible victory. Baczala needing to  hit the last ball for a 6, came up agonizingly short as his pull shot reached the boundary on the first bounce to leave Swanage tantalizingly 1 run shy of their target.

Sunday 9th August

The Sunday 1st XI entertained Corfe Mullen in their latest division 2 clash, the hosts batted first and were soon in trouble at 23-4. However, the inning was rescued, firstly by a half century partnership between Ian Perry and Mike Salmon. Salmon fell for a solid 21, Perry was joined by all rounder Ashley King. Together they added a match winning stand of 101 in just 14 overs. Perry was finally dismissed for an exquisite 77 which included 10 4’s and a huge 6. King remained undefeated stroking a superb 55 not out to help guide Swans to a respectable total of 205-9. The visitors reply started disastrously thanks to excellent bowling form both Paul Higham and Ben Baczala who took 3 and 2 wickets respectively to leave the visitors reeling at 55-5. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals until Corfe Mullen were finally dismissed for a mere 128. This comprehensive victory keeps the dream of a third successive promotion alive for Ron Barkers enterprising team, with just three matches left.

Swanage Sunday 2nd XI lost by 10 runs in their away fixture to Ferndown on Sunday, a particualry disappointing  result after they had done the hard work by restricting the home team to 197-7 on a flat wicket. Bowling honours went to Pete Barker (1-19) and Steve Bishop (4-28) for restricting the Ferndown upper order to a meagre 49-2 from their first 20 overs, a wonderful catch from Jack Hector in the gully also proved memorable. However, the Swans reply struggled to keep up with a modest run rate - Jack Hector (25) and Francis Kerrins (47) provided the backbone of the innings but it was left to Tim Edgar to restore some hope of victory with a scintillating quick fire 25 in the gathering gloom.  Sadly however it wasnt to be as the Swan's ultimately fell short on 188-8

Saturday 15th August

Swanage lost their match against Weymouth. Match report and further details to follow

Sunday 16th August

Both Swanage Sunday XIs recorded convincing victories this weekend as they continue to strive for promotion from their respective leagues. A wonderful 93 run partnership between Paul Higham (37) and Ian Booth (63) laid the foundations of the Swans' 1st XI win at Branksome. However, Lewis Kirby (17), Tom Wake-Walker (14) and Mike Salmon (14) also made valuable contributions to help lift the Swans to 188-9 from their 45 overs. The strength and depth of the Swans' bowling attack then reduced Branksome to 30-4 before ultimately bowling them out for 117. Although Ricky King (1-12), Paul Higham (1-14) and Matt Thomas (1-20) all bowled tightly it was Hacon Edgely (3-15) who grabbed the bowling honours in an impressive all round team performance.

The Sunday 2nd XI were equally dominant in their home fixture against Portland as after scoring 274-7 from their 45 overs they restricted the visitors to 220-9 to secure a 54 run victory.  Mike Wells (68) and Francis Kerins (43) set the tone for an impressive all round batting display in an opening partnership of 94 in only 16 overs. Importantly however their momentum was then maintained by Charlie Parsons (20), Tim Edgar (26) and Sam Price (18) who all built their innings around an impressive maiden 50 from Jack Hector.  The Portland reply then fell quickly behind the required run against tight opening spells from Sam Price and Tim Edgar.  However, the Swan's found wickets hard to come by until Terry White (5-56) and Roger Wilcox (3-23) triggered a mini-collapse in the last 5 overs to help seal a comprehensive victory.

Sunday 21st August

On Sunday, Swanage 1st XI entertained BRADFORD ABBAS in their penultimate Division One encounter of the season. The visitors' batted first and were soon in trouble due to a fine spell of seam bowling by PAUL HIGHAM who took 3 early wickets, the pressure was kept on the visitors' by a sensational spell of hostile bowling by ASHLEY KING who claimed his second 5 wicket haul of the season and despite some lower order hitting BRADFORD ABBAS were shot out for just 166. In reply, Swans' recovered from the loss of an early wicket with a half-century stand between HIGHAM and IAN BOOTH. HIGHAM fell for an enterprising 39 at which point BOOTH was joined by FRANCIS KERRINS together they guided Swans' to a comprehensive 6 wicket victory. Fittingly, BOOTH struck the winning runs to remain undefeated on 48 and KERRINS stroked a classy 41.
This victory was Swans' seventh in their last eight matches and makes a hat-trick of promotions into DORSETS' PREMIER division in SUNDAY CRICKET a formality going into their last fixture at DAYS PARK on SUNDAY.

Swanage Sunday 2nd XI enjoyed a comprehensive 6 wicket win on their visit to Wayfarers on Sunday and continued their own push for promotion. Pete Barker (3-28) and Steve Bishop (2-16) both produced hostile opening spells which quickly reduced the home side to 50-5. A brace of wickets from Terry White (2-30) also kept the pressure up as Wayfarers were finally dismissed for 142.  Pete Dyer (30) then ensured the Swanage reply started brightly, hitting some firm drives, including a straight 6 into the woods, and this momentum was maintained by Charlie Parsons (27) who played some handsome pull shots in his knock. However, the hard hitting Tim Edgar (31 not out) stole the batting honours with a flurry of boundaries to help Swanage cruised home in the 27 over.

Saturday 29th August

Ian Booth, Paul Higham and Ben Baczala all played key roles for Swanage in a tense, important final league game against Cerne Valley at Days Park on Saturday.  After the loss of an early wicket, Booth and Higham settled in for a match winning 172 run partnership. Both batsmen stayed watchful in defence and scored runs with some fine drives and pull shots. It was in the last 10 overs that Booth- who remained undefeated on a spectacular (119) and Higham who made a classy (81) accelerated superbly adding 95 runs to take Swans to an imposing total of 250-2. in reply, Higham bowled an excellent spell to take the first 3 wickets. However, an excellent century stand by the visitors set them up for a grandstand finale at 166-3 with 10 overs remaining. However, Ben Baczalas medium pace and booths off spin ensured a great victory for the hosts. Baczala claimed 3 wickets but fittingly Booth took the last wicket to finish with a 55run winning margin. This victory meant that the Saturday side won 6 of their 15 matches to finish mid table. Booth had a sensational season amassing 580 runs, including 2 centuries. The bowling star was Ricky King who claimed 26 wickets closely followed by Booth with 22 and Baczala with 21.

Sunday 30th August

Although the Sunday 1sts match was abandoned the team were still able to celebrate promotion by securing 2nd spot in the league.

Swanage Sunday 2nd XI won their final league game at Ibberton on Sunday though only by 1 wicket when chasing a seemingly modest score of 94.  However, the persistent rain made batting on the Ibberton artificial wicket a complete lottery and with a wet outfield holding up the ball it became as much a game of patience as it was cricket.  Tim Edgar (4-29), Peter Barker (2-14),and Terry White (2-17) initially put the Swans in the box seat as the home side slumped to 52-8 before some big blows at the end helped them rally to 94.  Not surprisingly the Swans batting also struggled in the conditions and at one stage they were 32-5 before a partnership of 45 between Mike Wells (29) and Sam Price (23) helped stage a recovery. When they fell (quite literally in both cases thanks to the conditions!) 10 runs were required from the final wicket and with a quiet dressing room nervously looking on it was fitting that skipper Terry White hit the winning runs.
