News Update - Swanage win the U8s Plate Final

After last weekend's four wins the U9s made in 5 in a row as they won the often rearranged 2017 Plate Final. Having played the semi final back in August 2017 it was a long wait but it was worth at as the U8s (or U9s!!) won by 8 runs in a thrilling game. Batting first Swanage batted consistently throughout with lots of good running between the wickets but sadly kept losing wickets to peg their score back. Some big hitting by Thomas and Josh at the end made all the difference as Swanage ended up on 257 - Josh making his best ever score of 19.

In reply AJ got Swanage off to the perfect start with a wicket first ball. Eric took a wicket in the next over but Parley were always in touch. AJ's dramatic second over saw him take 2 more wickets and put Swanage firmly in charge. A good first over by Cameron and then wickets from David and Jamie kept Swanage ahead before Harry started the last over with just 11 needed. A dot ball to start was followed by a game clinching catch by Eric and Swanage ran out winners by 8 runs

A fantastic weekend for the youth teams as they won all 4 of the matches they played. The U10s and U12s started it off with wins against Winton and Ferndown both sides winning run chases, with overs to spare, by 5 wickets. On Saturday morning it was the turn of the U9s who amassed a huge 346 as they beat Verwood by 101 runs whilst the U11s scored 282 as they raced passed the Parley total of 244. As the season nears its' conclusion the U11s lie second in their division whilst the U9s lie top of the table with one match to play each.

First to finish their fixtures were the U15s who improved hugely throughout the season getting a well deserved win against Burley before defeat in their final game to Verwood. Having been bowled out for only 52 earlier in the season they put up a spirited performance with Ella and Tia putting together a 69 run partnership to take them to a competitive 111. Tia was left 17 not out at the end while Ella made her top score of 23. With most of the team able to play again next year hopefully they will build on recent success.

The U9s have 2 games left but also a final try at playing the U8s Plate Final from last year. They play Verwood at home on Saturday where a win will set up a final game against Ferndown as a possible title decider as the two sides lie first and second at the moment. The Plate Final is over at Broadstone on Wednesday, around a year after it was first scheduled and hopefully this time it will get played!!!

The U10s have continued to have a great first season plying hardball. They have won twice the most recent a dramatic 1 wicket win against Ellingham. They have 2 home matches remaining the first against Winton before the final game against Hamworthy.

The U11s had a tense game on Wednesday in another first v second clash this time against Wimborne. In a match that went to the last ball Wimborne scraped victory by 1 run. Swanage remain in second place with 2 matches to go away to Parley followed by the final youth game of the season away to Christchurch.

The U12s have had a good year building on their last 2 years of hardball. In the first season of if you are out your out rather than pairs cricket they have had some great games including a couple of victories. They have their penultimate game on Friday the 13th before travelling all the way to Ellingham for the last game of the season.

Finally the U13s have 2 games left and hope to build on their recent successful run. They have won 3 league matches as well as defeating Wareham in the cup before narrowly losing to Division 1 Christchurch in the next round.

Fund Raising

Despite being out of season lots is still happening and we once again we have been fortunate to have had a quiz put on by Geoff and Tracy at the White Swan. With a guest question master - Geoff, dressed as W.G. Grace, raffle and home cooked food the night raised an amazing £957. Thanks to them as well as to Ross and Di and the staff of the White Horse for a great night.

We have just finished our year as one of 3 local causes being supported by the local Coop. Thanks to all of you who signed up to donate to the cricket club. The final cheque will be presented on Saturday 24th in store sometime between 12 and 1 when we will get the third and largest part payment.
