25th August - Winning the toss, Bere Regis took the opportunity to bat at home. Mike Hernandez proved an early thorn in the side however, taking early wickets, and things would have been much worse had the middle order not rallied, Bere finishing on 223/8 after 50 overs. Thanks to strong performances from Ryan Norman (50), Craig Wells and Elliot Baczala, Swanage reached the required total with 2 overs to spare.
18th August - In what may have been a decisive game against Sherborne, Swanage's 1st XI came up short with the bat chasing the 255 set by the home side. Another classy display from Elliot Baczala (87) who only had John Gregory (23) for company; these two making most of the 194 run total. Mike Hernandez and Elliot bowled with good discipline and aggression but two many single figure innings proved the undoing for Swanage.
11th August - On a wet and windy day Stalbridge won the toss and chose to field at Days Park. Unfortunately Swanage's batsmen were not at the races and the team collapsed to 89 all out. Important games have now become must win if Swanage are to maintain their Premiership status.
4th August - The 1st XI won the toss and chose to bat at home on Saturday. George Chaffer held the innings together with an excellent 75 and had it not been for a last wicket stand of 45 between Phil Eades ans Nike Hernandez, things would have been much worse. Chaffer also made good use of the ball taking 3 wickets, but the Swanage total of 209 proved insufficient as Poole completed the ask with 3 overs and 3 wickets to spare.
28 July - Broadstone CC won the toss and elected to field, a decision which looked to have backfired in the early stages as John Lewis (76) and Mike Salmon (36) made a solid start. Ryan Norman's 54 made a huge difference in the later stages as only 5 batsmen made double figures and took Swanage to 228 ao. Despite 4 wickets by Mike Salmon, Broadstone were able to reach the required total, winning by 2 wickets. More valuable points for Swanage in their fight for survival nonetheless.
21 July - Wimborne & Colehill CC 1st XI won the toss and elected to bat in the sunshine at Days Park. Craig Wells's new found skills with ball ensured a 3 wicket haul helped by Mike Hernandez, and Salmon, who took two more each. Chasing 289, Swanage's batsmen could not quite contribute as fully as the visitors and came up 65 runs short, Tom Salmon's 37 and Simon Goldsack's 49 the highlight of the innings. Despite the loss some valuable points gained helping Swanage stay clear of the relegation spot.
14th July - A 3 wicket haul from captain Ryan Norman kept the Dorchester total to a manageable 250 as the home side batted first. Unfortunately it was a bad day for the Swanage batsmen who never looked like reaching the required runs, the team finishing 92 all out.
7th July - Craig Wells (71) John Lewis (62) Steve Kent (36no) and Mike Hernandez (29) helped Swanage to a healthy 246 at home to Martinstown. The visitors completed the double against the home side however, reaching the total in the 44th over, Mike Wells the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 29.
30th June - Swanage were on the ropes, batting first, at Days Park against Shroton, with only Steve Kent (36) troubling the scorers. An excellent last wicket partnership (50) between Phil Eades and Mike Hernandez restored some respectability with the home side finishing on 193ao. A great performance in the field forced mistakes and meant Shroton came up short helping Swanage to a much needed win. Steve Kent and Ben Hodder took 3 wickets each, Shroton 114ao.
23rd June - Bere Regis set Swanage 231/9 in their innings with the returning Mike Hernandez showing the way with the ball, taking 3 wickets. Despite 64 from skipper Ryan Norman and 68 from Simon Goldsack, the travelling Swans fell 50 runs short.
16th June - Tom Salmon once again stole the show at home to Sherborne on Saturday with a powerful 101, ably supported by the in form Craig Wells (50). Sherborne posted 206/7, held in check thanks to an excellent bowling performance by old hand Ron Barker (3 wickets) and debutante Charlie Dyke who took two wickets in his maiden bowling session in the Dorset Premiership.
9th June - Despite a solid start from in form Tom Salmon (43) Swanage slumped to 117 all out against Stalbridge.
2nd June - Away to Poole, Ryan Norman's team continue to improve and pick up points. Despite the 80 run deficit there were many positives, notably from the returning Tom Salmon who scored a powerful 70; Craig Wells also impressed as he added a further 45 runs to the 195/9 total.
25th May - Some positive steps for the 1st XI at Days Park on Saturday with Craig Wells's 63 the highlight of the innings. Ben Hodder was the only bowler to get a wicket which meant Broadstone won with 9 to spare thanks to a 90no from Luke Carter.
19th May - The still under-strength 1st XI travelled to Wimborne and put a brave fight, bowling first in the sunshine. Some disciplined bowling brought early wickets and Swanage arguably had the better of the opposition in the early stages. A strong middle order meant the home side recovered to 224 which Swanage were unable to match.
12th May - Dorchester won the toss at Days Park and put the home side in to bat. Swanage could only muster 112 runs which the visitors knocked off for the loss of 5 wickets.
5th May - Ryan Norman was forced to field a rather depleted version of a 1st XI in his first game away to Martinstown. Some early breakthroughs gave the Swans some hope but the quality of the opposition started to tell and the total (285/5) proved too much for the visitors (110 ao) despite a dogged 50no from Swans man of the match Steve Kent.
1st September - Swanage lost the toss in their final game against league champions Sturminster and Hinton and were asked to bat. Paul Norman (49) Simon Fitch (26) and big hitting Scott Orchard (56) ground out a steady platform from which to build the respectable 195 run total. Despite 6 wickets from Ron Barker the visitors still had a sniff of victory up until the last ball of the innings, needing 2 to win, but could only managed to scramble a single against the excellent Peter Barker's final ball meaning the match was tied.
25th August - Swanage found themselves fielding against Abbotsbury on Saturday with Ryan Stearn and Ron Barker doing most of the damage with the ball, the home side finishing on 235 for 6 (40 overs). Despite a good performance from the middle order (Tim Ives 70, Scott Orchard 32 and Mike Nash 65no) Swanage were unable to reach the required total finishing 27 runs short.
18th August - The 2nd XI needed a good points haul against a Portland side sitting in a similar position in Dorset's Division 4. Winning the toss captain Tim Ives chose to attack with his bowlers, who have enjoyed some form of late, and it wasn't long before a breakthrough was made by Mike Nash. The standard of bowling by the whole team was of the highest quality epitomised by an exemplary 6 wicket haul from the returning Ryan Stearn; his hard work in the nets proving more than fruitful as the visitors were dismissed for 102. Despite the loss of two early wickets Ives and Norman steered the team to a comfortable 7 wicket win and a very important 19 point haul.
11th August - Once again Tim Ive's team took one of the league's leading clubs right to the wire in their own back yard. Wareham won the toss on a wet artificial wicket at the recreation ground, and put Swanage in to bat. Despite losing wickets Swanage maintained a steady run rate mainly thanks to some quality batting from the in-form John Gregory (72) and closed on 207 after their 40 overs. The home side were soon under pressure themselves as Elliot Baczala and the very economical Peter Barker enjoyed the bowling conditions but it was old hand Ron Barker who did the most damage taking 3 wickets. Matt Dunster and Simon Fitch took two more helped by 4 catches and a stumping from Paul Norman's glovework.
The depth of Wareham's batting eventually gained the upper hand with the home side were relieved to avoid a title chasing banana skin getting the runs in the last over.
4th August - Broadstone put Swanage in to bat after winning the toss at Charborough Road, but the decision proved to the Swans liking as Elliot Baczala and Scott Orchard batted all day making most of the 320 total. Orchard hit powerful strokes to all parts of the ground, and looked in fine form, but even this was to be eclipsed by another faultless knock from Baczala; he ended on 153 not out in a masterful display of timing and quality batting. Broadstone's turn at the crease eventually came and they were forced to throw everything they could muster at the ball. The Swanage bowlers stuck to their task well in the heat, Pete Barker and Elliot Baczala (again) bowled very disciplined lines, but the pace of Simon Fitch proved too hot as he dismissed the top order and effectively taking the game away from the home side. 17 very important points for the 2nd XI.
28 July - Winning the toss at Days Park, Tim Ives elected for a change in tactics and asked the visiting Poole side to bat. 204 by the visitors may well have been enough on another day but Elliot Baczala played a faultless innings hitting everything the poor Poole bowlers could muster to all parts of the ground and finishing 114 not out. John Gregory's supporting role (40) and some great fielding by Sam Willcocks also worthy of mention.
14th July - Opening pair Scott Orchard and Paul Norman put on 72 for the first wicket, batting first against a talented Chalke Valley bowling attack. Tim Ives, Geoff Willcocks and Simon Goldsack continued the fight but once the top order had gone the tail could not control a rampant spell of bowling from Chalke Valley's Tom Swanton who took 5 wickets on the day. Defending 202, Swanage began well with two early wickets, but the visitors set about any loose deliveries and knocked off the runs with a few overs to spare.
7th July -Geoff Willcocks (70), Scott Orchard (39) and John Gregory (40) tamed an accurate spell of bowling by Wimborne on a dry and bouncy wicket with plenty in it for the bowlers. The total of 229 was the highest score by the 2nd XI of the season albeit on a smallish ground with more than a few balls finding a home in local gardens. The home side wasted no time and seemed to be well in control of anything Swanage could muster with the ball but late breakthroughs took the game to a dramatic conclusion. Charlie Dyke bowled with discipline and took 3 important wickets supported by old hand Ron Barker who helped with another 4. Wimborne were still favourites to win, despite the setbacks, and found themselves requiring only 3 runs from the final 5 balls. Hitting out at Rons dobblers proved a mistake and only wickets fell; a great final delivery meant only a single was possible helping Swanage to a 1 run victory.
30th June - The 2nd XI travelled to top of the heap Sturminster and Hinton on Saturday, won the toss and elected to bat. Tim Ives showed the way with a disciplined innings (70) with some all round help from the middle order and tail, giving the team a total of 183 to defend. Despite some great bowling Swanage struggled to take wickets with only the leg spin of John Gregory getting a breakthrough. Swanage put their efforts into the defence of the total and the tactic nearly paid off with the home side taking 38 overs to get over the line.
23rd June - Another difficult day at the office for the 2nd XI with a shortage of runs once again a cause for concern. Had it not been for a confident 66 from Elliot Baczala things could have been much worse, 154 runs the small total to defend. Elliot continued his form with the ball and proved the most frugal with good support from Matt Dunster who improved again this week. The Abbotsbury batsmen however had other ideas with the remaining bowlers and surpassed the total in the 31st over.
16th June - Despite one of the best team performances with the bat led by Paul Norman (67), David Haines and Tim Ives, the 2nd XI could not capitalise at Portland. 188 looked like a good total on a wicket which had plenty in it for the bowlers, but a luck lustre performance in the field proved costly and the home side just made it over the line with a wicket to spare. Scott Orchard the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets.
9th June - Another game where a lack of runs proved decisive with only Paul Norman (34) and Tim Ives (25no) managing to make any headway with the bat, Swanage making 133/9. Things took an interesting turn when Pete Barker forced an edge behind in the first few overs but the quality of the Wareham side took its toll and the visitors made the total with overs to spare. The 2nd XI continue to find their feet with its younger players improving each week.
2nd June - The 2nd XI are starting to find some form with some of the younger players improving exponentially. Sam Willcocks once again opened the batting and took to his new role with some style scoring his first 50 to huge applause. Tim Ives and Dave Morton were the only other batsmen to contribute and so a promising start fell way with Swanage only posting 159 runs against the visitors Broadstone.
A strong bowling performance, led by Jack McDermott, bamboozled the experienced Broadstone batsmen with a mix of pace and movement which proved too good during both his spells. Charlie Dyke and Matt Dunster kept up the pressure with excellent bowling but insufficient runs and dropped catches ultimately cost Swanage the game in a tight finish.
25th May - Tim Ives recorded his first victory in a close contest against Poole on Saturday who won the toss and put the Swans in to bat. Sam Willcocks enjoyed his first spell as opener and got the visitors off to a solid start, the top order making 120 on a very difficult wicket with Charlie Dyke's powerful 44 worthy of mention. Jack McDermott's pace proved too hot for most of the Poole side but his 3 wicket haul was trumped by an accurate, and animated, performance from man of the match Mike Nash who took 6 wickets for 12 runs. A great team effort from the mixture of youth and experience.
12th May - Swanage travelled to the far flung corners of the Chalke Valley on Saturday but were unable to offer much against a better side. Despite the defeat there were some great individual performances, notably from Jack McDermott who caused the home batsmen some discomfort in the early stages, as well as taking a great catch in the deep.
5th May - Tim Ives lost most of his team to the 1st XI but, given the circumstances, managed a reasonable 138-8 in their 40 overs against Wimborne & Colehill 3rds. The visitors got over line with 5 wickets to spare.
