Youth Results 2019

Swanage Hurricanes U11s v Winton

The Hurricanes travelled to Winton for their return fixture. On a greasy wicket the Hurricanes batted first and got off to an unfortunate start when Dylan was run out for 0 in the first over. Kieran followed soon after leaving the Hurricanes is some problems on 0 for 2. Josh and James set about rebuilding the Hurricanes innings and some aggressive pull shots by Josh soon got the score board ticking over. Josh was bowled for 11 but James went about his batting in a quietly assured manner with a well constructed 25 (retired) made up entirely of ones and two’s. Sam made a quick fire 8 and Seb also chipped in with 7, Barney and Lee also added a couple of runs to push the Hurricanes score to 91 in their 18 overs

Winton’s reply started steadily and Barney and Sam were unable to take any early wickets. Josh bowled with pace but the Hurricanes still could make the break through. On came Lee with his leg spin and with his second ball he bowled Winton’s opener. Lee took another wicket in his second over thanks to a fantastic catch by Barney in the deep. Kieran and James both bowled well but it was Dylan who took the only other wicket. Winton reaching the total with only a couple of overs to spare

Swanage 91 - 7  Winton 95 - 3  Winton won by 5 wickets

Swanage Scorpions U10s v Winton

In their rearranged match Swanage finally took on Winton. Winton batted first and showed real aggression as they hit the ball hard to all parts. Swanage pegged them back as openers Jernimain and Thomas both bowled good second overs. Alex and Zac couldn't get the breakthrough - Zac bowling well with no luck and. Eric bowled the tightest but is was Harry who got the breakthrough. A cool headed run out by Jamie was followed by another bowled as Swanage got back into the match and Bradley bowled his best spell to date. Winton ended on an impressive 166 - 3

With such a huge target Swanage could have been overawed but Alex set about the Winton bowling with his best innings of the season - 28 retired with 6 fours. Opening partner AJ carried on his excellent form with another 15 then after Zac's dismissal it was Eric who was next to continue the run fest as he sped to his first retirement of 25 with 4 fours. A quick 10 not out from Thomas including a 5 left Swanage on their best score of the season of 129 - 2 - a defeat but our best batting performance without a doubt.

Winton 166 - 3  Swanage 129 - 2 Winton won by 37 runs

Swanage Sabres U13s v Bournemouth

The Sabres travelled to Bournemouth in the last league match of the season with an intention of consolidating their third place in the table. The Sabres batted first and Sid wasted no time in signalling his intention to the Bournemouth attack by hitting his first 4 deliveries all for four. Seb was unlucky to be run out for 0 but Sid and Tia continued the onslaught. Tia was bowled for 7 and this brought Regan to the crease and he hit his first delivery for 4. Sid had to retire having reached 30 (which included 7 fours). Tom then joined Regan. They pushed the score along on with several three’s being run. Regan was unlucky to be bowled one short of another retirement on 29 ( including 4 fours). Tom and Dexter continued to score freely until Tom had to retire on 30 (including 4 fours). Dexter found the bowling to his liking and despite the loses of James A and James H, Dexter’s cameo innings of 16 (including 3 fours) pushed the Sabres score well over the 100 mark before being bowled. Dylan remained 1 not out at the end and the Sabres closed on 136-6 in their 20 overs. The Sabre’s score was competitive but not impossible with plenty of scoring opportunities on a large outfield.

Bournemouth set about the task slowly but confidently and soon the  run rate was at or above that required to win the match. Both  Bournemouth openers had to retire on 30 and the Sabres didn’t make their first breakthrough until the 12th over when Tom took a catch off Seb’s bowling with the score on 90. Tia bowled well conceding only 9 runs from her 3 overs and was unlucky not to pick up any wickets. Dexter and Sid were unable to make any further breakthroughs and James A and James H also had tidy spells with the ball but without any wickets. On came Dylan and in his first over he found himself on a hat trick after a fine caught behind by Regan and an even better catch at mid off by Tia. Dylan finished with figures of 2 overs 2-10. Bournemouth reached their target in the final over.

Sabres final statistics played 9 won 5 lost 3 and 1 no result (final league position 5th) A good season which I hope the team all enjoyed.

Swanage Sabres 136 - 6  Bournemouth 137 - 4  Bournemouth on by 5 wickets

Swanage Pirates U12s v Winton

After last weeks top score of the season against Ferndown the Pirates were at home once again this time to Winton. Batting first they were determined to exceed last week's score. They got off to a solid start with the ever improving Jenson (8) and Jack (5) opening the batting. With Jenson well caught - one of 4 catches for the same player - a mix up led to Jack getting run out. This brought Ethan (11) and top scorer Josh (18) to the crease who put together a great partnership of 30 before Ethan was out to a brilliant catch. Josh carried on hitting a couple fo 4s with good support from Alex (5) and Lee with his best score of the season with 7 not out. Oli was out cheaply before Sam (5 not out) joined Lee and helped Swanage to their highest score of the season of 112 - 6.

Alex and Josh opened the bowling but the breakthrough came from a brilliant run out from Sam. With Alex taking a wicket soon after Winton were in trouble. Some excellent middle order batting from Winton pulled it round despite good spells by Ethan and Jenson. Oli's overs were his best yet before Sam and Seb playing up from the U11s tried their luck. Both came close but sadly Winton's batting proved too strong but it took them until over 15 to get the runs.

Another improved performance with the best batting of the season, some excellent fielding - Lee getting better and better each match behind the stumps and improved bowling. With one match to go it would be great to finish the season with a victory but their is much to be proud of from the recent matches.

Swanage Pirates U12s 112 - 6  Winton 115 - 2  Winton won by 7 wickets

Swanage Tigers U8s v Wimborne

The Tigers travelled to Wimborne for their latest game and posted their biggest score of the season. Harry led the way Lucas  with the bat with 13 well supported by Jenson (10). Lucas (15) carried on the good work along with Jacob as Swanage raced to 269 after 2 pairs. Henry and Joe had some tricky bowling with lots of wides but kept the score moving with only 1 wicket Swanage ending on 298.
Early wickets for Swanage from Jenson and Lucas meant a great start and kept Swanage in with a chance with an extra 10 runs to our score. It was the last pair who won the match for Wimborne with some big hitting despite everyone's best efforts with the ball. An enjoyable game and definitely our best batting performance of the season

Swanage 308  Wimborne 351  Wimborne won by 43 runs

Swanage Tornadoes U11s v Parley

Another home match for the Tornadoes as they entertained Parley. Batting first Swanage struggled against some good Parley bowling with everyone getting a few but no one getting a big score. AJ carried on his recent good batting form opening with another 10 but Jesse, Charlie, India and Alex all fell cheaply. Eric and Josh ran well and picked up lots of extras before Thomas rounded the innings off with 10 and Swanage ended up on 69 all out

Swanage bowled well with Thomas, Charlie and Alex with 2 all taking wickets but with only 69 to chase it was not enough. The game carried on to allow a few extra bowlers and batters to have a turn

Swanage 69 all out  Parley 70 - 4  Parley won by 4 wickets

Swanage Hurricanes U11s v Broadstone

The Hurricanes travelled to Broadstone hoping for a change in fortunes. Broadstone elected to field first  and struck early with, in form, Dylan run out for 4. In came Josh who with Kieran put on 34 before Kieran was bowled for 5. Josh continued to run quick singles with James and played some aggressive pull shots to retire on 26 which included three 4’s. James kept going and fell just 2 runs short of another retirement when he was bowled for 23 which also included three 4’s. Sam (1) Barney and Harry (making his debut) were unable to make progress which left Seb (for the second time in the week) being last man standing. Seb played some fantastic shots including a cover drive and an on drive (both for Boundaries) to remain 16 not out (including 3 boundaries)at the end. The Hurricanes finished on 99-6 Broadstone got off to a flier and never looked back reaching their total in just 10 overs without losing a wicket.

Swanage Hurricanes U11s 99 - 6   Broadstone 102 - 0  Broadstone won by 8 wickets

Swanage Scorpions U10s v Hamworthy

Swanage had high hopes after their performance against league leaders Wimborne last week as they batted first against Hamworhty. With only 6 players Hamworthy were able to use Michael and Jenson as their extra players and they both performed well in the field and with the ball. Hamworthy bowled well throughout and kept the Swanage batters from scoring freely. The early loss of Cameron didn't help but David and Jernimain turned things around. With David out and Alex falling soon after Harry (5 not out) joined Jernimain as he carried on towards his first retirement of the season on 25. With Jernimain retired, Swanage kept the runs coming from Archie and Bradley (6) - scoring his first 4 and eventually ended on 92 - 5.

Alex and Harry opened the bowling keeping it tight before Jernimain and David took up the attack. Jernimain carried on with his great game as he took the first wicket. Bradley's bowling continues to improve but it was Jamie who got the next wicket and with a retirement there were two new batsmen. A wicket from Harry made the ending tense before Hamworthy secured the win ending on 94 - 3

Swanage Scorpions 92 - 5   Hamworthy 94 - 3  Hamworthy won by 5 wickets

Swanage Hurricanes U11s v Poole Town

Swanage travelled to Poole for the latest league encounter. The Hurricanes won the toss and elected to field first. An early wicket from Max whilst the score was on only 9 was the high point for the Hurricanes as Poole took control. Barney picked up a wicket towards the end of the Poole innings but the damage had been done and Poole closed their innings with a very competitive 133-3 which was assisted by a high number of extras.

The Hurricanes reply didn’t get off to a good start losing Josh and Sam early with only 11 runs on the board. Runs proved hard to come by and wickets fell regularly. The only resistance came from Dylan but he had to retire on 28. Seb was last man standing and despite a classic cover drive for four, Seb was unable to prevent defeat when he was caught for a defiant 11. Not one of our greatest performances but we can’t be brilliant all the time!

Poole 133 - 3  Swanage 89 - 7  Poole won by 44 runs

Swanage U15 v. Wimborne U15 @ Swanage 9th July 2019

This was the return fixture of a tightly-fought contest which Wimborne won earlier in the season. The visitors won the toss and put the home side in to bat. Openers Regan and Tia started cautiously against tight bowling, but then Tia fell to the first change bowler, clean bowled. Freddie came in at number 3 and there was a profitable partnership with Regan of 50 runs. Regan struck three boundaries in his 22 before holing out to mid on. Jacob joined Freddie and immediately hit 2 boundaries to mid wicket. However, he was shortly after pinned back on the crease and given LBW. Harry joined his brother and found better form than when batting last week. Three powerful boundaries saw him reach a score of 17 before falling to the final ball of the innings. Freddie was left not out on an excellent 34 and the Swanage total was 127/4.
In reply, the visitors hit a boundary first ball and raced to 37 off the first 3 overs, however they had lost a wicket to Jacob in the second over. Jacob struck again in his second over, but by this time the visitors had already reached 41 runs. Batsmen 3 and 4 piled on the runs, reaching 98 before the third wicket fell, bowled by Freddie. A retirement for the other batsman saw a new bat at the crease, but this left little for the remaining batsmen to do. There was not much that change bowlers Tia, Sid and James could do as Wimborne crossed the finishing line with overs to spare.
Swanage batted well, particularly Regan and Freddie, however, the running between the wickets was much better from the Wimborne side. The visitors played with a fielder in roughly the silly mid off position and this was very effective, saving perhaps 10-15 runs. Swanage were a player short, so that made matters harder when fielding, perhaps costing 10 runs or so. The home side need to attack the ball more when fielding, to prevent the easy single that was taken too often. Overall, quite a good performance from Swanage. We just need to sharpen up the running between the wickets and to try to stop the easy singles.

Swanage 127 - 4   Wimborne 129 - 3  Wimborne won by 6 wickets

Swanage Pirates U12s v Ferndown

Swanage Pirates entertained high flying Ferndown and once again improved on the previous week's performance. Ferndown batted first and through aggressive batting amassed 176 - 3. Only Ethan was able to get a wicket but the bowling was much better again with Jenson bowling 2 overs for 13 and Ollie 2 overs for 17. Lee kept well improving as the game progressed.

For Swanage it was all about making a good response and that they did as each batter was determined to stay in and scores some runs. First Jack and Dan (11), then Josh and Ethan and Alex (7). The running between the wickets was excellent and Swanage neared the magic 100 mark. After Ollie was out a determined Jenson remained 3 not out as he was joined by guest player George from Ferndown. He hit the last ball of the match fir 4 taking Swanage to 101 - 7.  A defeat but another huge step forward

Ferndown 176 - 3  Swanage 101 - 7  Ferndown won by 75 runs

Swanage Sabres U13s v Christchurch

The Sabres travelled to Christchurch for their penultimate league match of the season. Christchurch, top of the league and unbeaten so far this season would prove to be no match for a rampant Sabres team. Sabres batting first got off to a solid start with Sid and Seb seeing off the Christchurch quickies. Seb went for 3 but Sid continued the onslaught and retired for the second successive week on 30. That brought the Norman family together with both Tia and Regan continuing to dominate the Christchurch bowling. Tia was eventually out  to a fine catch for 22 and Regan followed soon after for 18. Tom  had a quick fire 6 before being bowled and with just a few overs to go Dexter had to throw the bat at everything and was unlucky  to be bowled. Freddie and Joe continued to pile on the runs, each remaining 11 not out with the shot of the day being Joe’s cover drive for 4;  Sabres had scored 138 for 6 in their 20 overs.

Christchurch started slowly and fell behind the run rate early on. With pressure mounting Tia got the first break through clean bowling the opener. Sabres turned to spin and Sid was soon amongst the wickets. Dylan playing his first match for the Sabres bowled well and Joe added to the Christchurch woe’s when he bowled their other opener for just 9. This brought Christchurch’ s two strongest players together but Sabres held their nerve and although the two batsman both retired on 30, Christchurch still needed 20 runs to win with 4 overs to go. The pressure proved too much for the Christchurch tale end and 2 fine stumpings and a caught behind by Regan left the Sabres worthy winners by 11 runs. Tia was the pick of the bowlers returning figures of 3-15, closely followed by Sid with 2-31. A great team performance , you deserved to win, well done to you all

Swanage Sabres 138 - 6  Christchurch 127 all out   Swanage won by 11 runs

Swanage Tigers U8s v Ferndown

Swanage and Ferndown both managed to have 2 sides so most of the team were able to get a match including Joe who starred for Ferndown. There were lots of excellent performances alongside the many debuts though despite some close games Swanage lost all 4 - one by only 4 runs - probably Tim's fault as he couldn't get out of the way of a great shot from Lucas which would have gone for 4!!!! As they say cricket was the winner with a brilliant atmosphere and loads of cricket.

Swanage Scorpions U10s v Wimborne

The U10s gave their best performance of the season as they took on league leaders Wimborne. Fielding first Archie and Eric opened the bowling and bowled well against some good batsmen. Change bowlers Jernimain and Alex kept up the pressure with Alex once again getting the breakthrough. He took a second wicket as Archie took the catch and with a retirement Swanage were back in the game. Zac and Thomas followed with Thomas back in form with 2 wickets. With Josh adding another wicket Wimborne were down to their last 2 batsmen who managed to bat out the overs to get Wimborne to 147 - 5.
Having been bowled out for 20 in the last encounter Swanage were determined to do better and after his excellent debut as wicket keeper AJ took to the bowling hitting a quick fire 13. Thomas and Archie were out early but Alex played well for 10 before Josh (6) and Zac fell leaving Swanage at 33 - 6. Better but not much but Wimborne hadn't reckoned with Eric and Jernimain who were in no mood to get out. They hit the ball to all parts before Jernimain was out for 12 after a 50 partnership. With Eric as last man standing Swanage edged towards 100 and Eric to his first retirement of 25. Sadly having been hit by a faster ball he was out for a brilliant 24 his top score in hardball cricket and Swanage all out for a very respectable 88.

Wimborne 147 - 5  Swanage 88 all out  Wimborne won by 59 runs

Swanage U15 v. Ferndown U15 @ Wayfarers

Summer is definitely here now – no additional layers of clothing were needed by the spectators during the match. Swanage travelled to Wayfarers for this fixture. With both side boasting just 8 players, Swanage took to the field as Ferndown batted first. Freddie and Jacob opened the bowling and the opposition’s captain was quickly away scoring 2 boundaries in the first over, however Freddie pegged back the stumps of the number 2 bat in the same over. Jacob bowled some decent balls from the other end, but bat number 1 was on a mission and carted several more balls over the boundary. Sid and Tia came on to bowl and Sid bowled some excellent deliveries, but was unfortunate to be bowling immediately to the in-form bat. His first two balls went for 6 and 4, before the batsman retired in just the fifth over. Sid struck soon after by bowling the number four bat. There were three or four occasions when the batsmen played loose shots in the air, only for the ball to fall harmlessly in the gap between fielders. Andrew and Harry both struck with the ball, Andrew bowling the number 3 and Harry having the number 5 exceptionally caught behind the sticks by the excellent keeper Regan. Matters were looking good for Swanage, until the Bedford twins came to the crease together, making it extremely difficult for the scorers to tell them apart. Luckily their mother was sitting nearby and was able to assist! The twins upped the scoring rate and after Freddie took a wicket off the final ball, the final score had reached an imposing 174/5.
A well-deserved drink at the interval was followed by Freddie and Regan starting the run chase. On such a small ground with a fast outfield, the total was by no means out of reach. Freddie started positively and batted well for 12, but was out to a missed defensive stroke in just the third over. This brought Tia to the crease to partner her brother. She got going very quickly and was middling the bat immediately, both defensively and offensively. She outscored Regan and rapidly reached an excellent retirement score of 35, including 7 boundaries. Her retirement brought Jacob to the crease. Unfortunately he backed away from a straight ball first up and was clean bowled. James was next up. He connected with the ball well, and hit a couple of powerful boundaries on his way to a score of 11. Meanwhile Regan had upped his scoring rate and was rapidly approaching his retirement score with a mighty 6 over mid wicket, but was then bowled for 28 runs. Harry was connecting with the ball powerfully at the other end, but the overs were running out as he was joined first by Andrew and then by Sid, both of who had too much to do to reach the required total, and so Swanage finished 29 runs short on our highest total of the season at 145/5.

Ferndown 174 - 5  Swanage 145 - 5  Ferndown won by 29 runs

Swanage Pirates U12s v Verwood

The Pirates travelled to Verwood for their latest game and were able to build on their batting of the previous week. A determined effort from the whole team meant the runs off the bat made up a greater part of the total rather the wides and no balls we were given. Alex stood out with 10 well supported by Dylan with 7 and James (6)  and a determined innings by Jenson as Swanage ended on 77 all out but crucially 37 off the bat as against 21 from the week before.
With a low total to defend Barney bowled well taking an early wicket as Ethan took the catch. Dylan and James took wickets followed by Ethan with a catch by Dan. Swanage looked as if there was real hope but couldn't get another breakthrough despite excellent bowling by Jack 2 overs for 6 runs and Verwood ran out winners by 4 wickets

Swanage 77 all out Verwood 79 - 4   Verwood won by 5 wickets

Swanage Sabres U13s v Broadstone Girls

Swanage were back in league action at Days Park against Broadstone Girls. Swanage won the toss and elected to field first. Broadstone got off to a flying start having loaded the top order with their County Players. Tom clean bowled their opener for 10 but Broadstone were still scoring at 10 runs an over. After the retirement of 2 batsman  who made 31 and 33 respectively, the Sabres started to peg back the run rate and take wickets regularly. The Broadstone collapse started by Joe and Sid with a wicket each, Tom took his second wicket with a sharp stumping by Regan and Seb chipped in with 2 wickets. Tia ,Dexter and James bowled well without much luck but kept the run rate down. Freddie finally mopped up the tail leaving Broadstone 128 all out in 17 overs

The Sabres reply got off to a slow but steady start with Sid and Seb seeing off 6 overs of accurate fast bowling. Sid, gaining in confidence, started to play his shots and soon retired on 30 leaving the Sabres in a good position. Seb continued to keep the score ticking over but Sabres lost Joe for 5 and Dexter for 6 before Seb himself was out stumped for a good 17. This brought together Freddie and Regan and within a matter of 4 overs Freddie was 28 not out and Regan 19 not out bringing Sabres home to victory by 6 wickets with an over to spare.

Broadstone Girls 128 all out  Swanage Sabres 131 - 3   Swanage won by 6 wickets

Swanage Tigers U8s v Winton

The U8s travelled to Winton Rec for their third game with Zion and Jacob making their Swanage debuts. Swanage batted first with Harrison and Dan getting the innings underway with some excellent shots and good running. Lucas and Jacob got things really moving with more good batting Lucas scoring 15 runs. Sophie and Zion carried on from where the others had left off until a brilliant final over saw run outs and wickets galore as Winton kept Swanage to 277.
The experienced Winton side batted well despite Swanage's best efforts and only Zion was able to take a wicket as Winton reached 385.
Another enjoyable game with more Swanage players getting the chance to play in a match

Swanage 277  Winton 385  Winton won by 108 runs

Swanage Tornadoes U11s v Ferndown

Finally, a home game for the Tornadoes as Ferndown visited Days Park. Captain India won the toss and put Ferndown into bat. Kieran and Charlie opened the attack and Charlie bowled one of the Ferndown openers in his first over. With Harry and India bowling next it was India who struck next with another bowled before the Swanage fielding went into overdrive. First Kieran with a diving throw secured a run out and he was quickly followed by another brilliant direct from Charlie. A wicket from Eric and the retirement of the other Ferndown opener Erin left Ferndown with their last pair together with only 9 overs gone. Jesse's first over saw a third run out though not quite as intended as after Jesse had missed a run out chance Harry made it 3 direct hits. As Jesse bowled the final Ferndown batter it was all over and Ferndown all out for 50. A brilliant bowling and fielding performance. Cameron once again kept well on only his second outing as wicketkeeper.

Harry and Cameron opened the batting and Harry was unlucky to be out early. Cameron (7) and Eric (9) batted well running well between the wickets and watching the extras pile up. They took Swanage close to victory before Eric was out quickly followed by Jesse. Cameron's excellent knock was ended by the 4th run out of the day before India and Kieran guided Swanage home with overs to spare and a 4 wicket victory.

Ferndown 50 all out  Swanage Tornadoes 51 - 4  Swanage won by 4 wickets

Swanage U15 v. Poole U15 @ Swanage 25th June 2019

On a muggy evening, Poole won the toss and elected to bat. This was the return fixture of our opening game of this season, a game which saw Poole bat first and win by 20 runs. Brothers Freddie and Harry took the new ball. Both bowled tightly, with Harry producing some challenging balls for the Poole openers to defend. Poole put on 35 in the first 4 overs, when there was a change of bowling with Tia and Jacob coming on. Jacob bowling a tricky line, across the right handers, but was fortunate to take the first wicket with a full toss. The visitors then consolidated their position with a partnership of 36 runs, finally ended by Andrew with a catch off Jacob’s bowling. A flurry of wickets with Regan effecting a stumping off Andrew’s bowling. Andrew then won an LBW shout. Sid and James came on to bowl, with Sid tossing the ball up, getting good turn, resulting in a second stumping for Regan. James got his name in the wickets column with a decent catch from Freddie, before the final 2 overs were bowled by Harry and Tia, who took the last over by virtue of her ability to bowl an over conceding no extras. She did this and enjoyed a wicket thanks to a spectacular catch by Sid at square leg. With a run out off the last ball, Swanage achieved the excellent feat of taking 8 wickets. Poole scored 138 runs.

After the interval, Freddie and Harry opened the batting. A steady start saw the home side reach the half way stage with 68 runs for the loss of no wickets. Freddie was fluent in this ball striking and played some excellent shots, scoring 5 boundaries on his way to a retirement score of 35 runs. Harry hit a couple of powerful boundaries early on, but couldn’t quite build on this start to accelerate the scoring. New batsman Regan looked to be immediately in touch, but holed out to the catch of the day near the boundary. Jacob had a brief stay before an unfortunate run out off a no ball. This brought Sid to the crease. He played a couple of fine shots, including a mighty ball-losing 6 over mid wicket. Harry was finally bowled for 25, permitting Andrew to the crease for a couple of overs of batting, which featured a powerful boundary. Swanage’s total was 128 for 3 wickets, falling a tantalising 10 runs short of Poole’s total.

Poole 138 all out   Swanage U15s 128 - 3  Poole won by 10 runs

Swanage Sabres U13s v Ellingham

Swanage Sabres travelled to Ellingham for their next league encounter. The Sabres were put into bat and got off to a shaky start losing Sid in the first over and Seb soon after leaving the Sabres struggling at 15-2. James and Dexter showed some resilience against the bowling and put together a partnership of 24 before Dexter was bowled for 6. James continue to nudge singles before being run out for 8. Tom played over a Yorker but Joe was still there and was determined not to give his wicket away, he managed to keep out the straight balls, and worked some singles around to remained not out on 13 with Regan not out on 11. The sabres finished on 78 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Although not a big total the pitch was not easy and the Sabres made a good start with Tia taking 2 wickets (including a caught and bowled) to leave Ellingham struggling on 18 for 2. Unfortunately that was where the success ended. Despite good efforts from Freddie, Tom , James , Sid and Dexter they were unable to dislodge Ellingham’s County players who both finished on 24 not out which saw Ellingham home with 10 overs to spare. Disappointing because the team are capable of much better (a bit like the first team!!)

Swanage Sabres 78 - 5  Ellingham 79 - 2  Ellingham won by 7 wickets

Swanage Tigers U8s v
Parley

In their second match Swanage played a virtually new team and with Jacob ill overnight they were left with 5 players. It made no difference to the batting as they started well with Harry scoring 13 and he and Joe got Swanage off to a flier with 36 runs in their 4 overs. With the two Lucas's in next Swanage continued to attack - Lucas Cartridge scoring 9 as Swanage moved to 259. With Isla batting and everyone else getting a an extra over she started well hitting her first ball for 2 and Swanage ended up on 293

Parley had some big hitters so Swanage needed wickets and it was Lucas Cartridge who got one in the first over. He got a second late on but despite some great bowling no one else could get a wicket and Parley ran out winners by 103 runs.

Swanage 293  Parley 396  Parley won by 103 runs

Swanage Tornadoes U11s v Ellingham

After the usual shooing of cattle and horses off the pitch the Tornadoes batted first on a beautiful day in the New Forest. Determined batting and good running meant Swanage had a good run rate throughout though it was extras that were the biggest contributor. Kieran (13) once again batted well, initially with first time opener Lee and then with Harry and Alex (10).  Eric and AJ got brief bats as Swanage ended on 91 - 3.

With Lee now debuting behind the stumps and making a great job of it Swanage set about defending their total. Tight opening bowling by Josh and Thomas kept the score down before Alex and AJ came on to bowl and AJ made the breakthrough. A series of nearly run outs put Ellingham under pressure but Swanage had no luck despite their best efforts. The score slowly rose as Harry Eric and Kieran bowled  next but no one could get another wicket and Ellingham reached their victory total with an over to spare.

Swanage Tornadoes 91 - 3   Ellingham 92 - 1  Ellingham won by 7 wickets

Swanage Hurricanes U11s v Hamworhty

Swanage Hurricanes entertained Hamworthy at Days park in this return fixture. On a hot morning the Hurricanes loss the toss and were put into bat. Hurricanes lost the early wicket of Owen after a sharp stumping by the Hamworthy keeper. Dylan and Josh battled hard against accurate bowling and moved the score on to 35 before Dylan fell to the second stumping of the day for a well earned 5. This started a collapse with James and Sam both being bowled in the same over which left the Hurricanes on 35 for 4 in 8 overs. Josh continued to play well and retired in style with his first hard ball six over square leg to finish on 28. Charlie fought well for 5 and Barney and Seb, who have not had to bat too much this year, both scored 1 each before the Hurricanes were dismissed for 73.

Hamworthy set about the run chase aggressively and despite tight bowling from Barney and Sam , Hamworthy moved the score on to 26 without loss after the first 4 overs. Josh and James also bowled well but were unable to make the breakthrough. Owen and Dylan were also unable to take a wicket and Hamworthy reached their target without loss in 10 overs. Seb’s keeping continues to improve each week with some good leg side takes. Hurricanes continued to bowl at the remainder of the Hamworthy team and hand more success with Sam taking a wicket and Charlie taking 2 in 2 overs.

Swanage Hurricanes 73 all out  Hamworthy 74 - 0    Hamworthy won by 8 wickets

Swanage Scorpions U10s v Bournemouth

Batting first Bournemouth started well before a direct run out from Archie saw Swanage get the breakthrough. Archie had opened the bowling with Thomas and they were followed by Josh and Jamie. Josh bowled well having given the wicket keeping duties to Cameron for the evening who made an excellent debut behind the stumps. David and Jermaine bowled next but everything changed with Alex in the attack after Josh had taken a good catch off David's bowling. Alex struck twice in two balls, the second after a mass team shoelace tie, and then on the hat trick ball Josh was able to run out a third Bournemouth player. The team hat trick left Bournemouth 77 - 5 but good batting by their final pair got them to 126 - 5 in their 18 overs.

Having to bat well Swanage got off to a terrible start as the top 5 fell with only 1 run between them. It was David and Jamie who restored some order as they showed great determination and skill as they took the score from 13 - 5 to nearly 50. Jamie was hit on the thigh but carried on with his best innings of the year while David making his hard ball debut scored an excellent 12 not out. Cameron was unlucky to be bowled off his pads as Swanage ended on 55 - 7 a lot better than it looked at 13 - 5.

Bournemouth 126 - 5   Swanage 55 - 7   Bournemouth won by 71 runs

Swanage Sabres U13s v Wimborne

The Sabres unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Wimborne at Days Park The Sabres won the toss and elected to field first. This looked to be the right decision as Sabre’s bowlers were soon on top and wickets fell regularly. The pick of the bowlers were Freddie 3 overs 1 for 1 , James 2 overs 2 for 8, Tia 2 for 11 and Seb 2 for 4,closely followed by Tom and Dexter who both took a wicket each. Wimborne were dismissed for 77 in just 17 overs.

The Sabres were well placed to take their third straight win but the Wimborne attack had other ideas and a Sabres win was soon blown away with a devastating opening spell by the best bowling the Sabres have faced so far this season. The Sabres found themselves 3 for 6 in just 4 overs with Sabres top seven bats only managing  1 run between them. Sid and Freddie set about a Sabres recovery but Sid had to retire on 30 (including 5 fours) and Freddie was bowled on 16 to leave the Sabres all out for 55 so losing by 22 runs. The two Wimborne opening bowlers finishing with figures of 2 for 2 and 5 for 6 respectively.

It was just one of those games, lets move on!

Wimborne 77 all out  Swanage 55 all out   Wimborne won by 22 runs

Swanage Pirates U12s v Poole

With 3 debutants and the return of Alex the Pirates had a new look about them but hopefully a team for the rest of the season. Captain Lee lost the toss and Poole decided to bat first. With one of the debutants Dan going behind the stumps it was Dylan and Jack who opened the bowling and it was Jack who got the early breakthrough. Some aggressive batting from Poole saw the score rise quickly but with Alex bowling well and Josh taking a wicket, with a brilliant caught and bowled, Swanage got back into the game. A second wicket for Josh came later as debutants Ethan and Oli had a bowl. Lee finished off the innings with Poole at an impressive 180 - 3.

Needing a good start Swanage lost Ethan and Josh early before Dan - with an aggressive 11 and Dylan rebuilt the innings. Tight bowling from Poole meant Swanage were way behind the run rate but they never gave up and wides kept the score going. With Alex and Jenson in at the end Swanage ended 73 - 6

Poole 180 - 3  Swanage 73 - 6  Poole won by 107 runs

Swanage Hurricanes U11s v Bournemouth

The Hurricanes entertained Bournemouth at home on 5th June With the threat of rain, Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision was justified with good tight bowling from Barney and Josh who only conceded 13 runs in their first 4 overs. India and Owen kept the pressure on and India final got the breakthrough having the Bournemouth opener caught by James in the covers. Bournemouth had progressed to 36-1 off 8 overs. James bowled well in difficult wet conditions. Sam was able to claim a couple of wickets finishing with figures of 2-16 in 2 overs before the rain set in and the match was abandoned.

Swanage U15 v. Bournemouth Tigers U15 Tuesday 11th June @ Swanage

The rain clouds threatened but never came to Days Park, where the only match in the Dorset youth cricket league was played. Both sides fielded full-strength teams and the visitors were put in to bat by the home side. Brothers Harry and Freddie took the lurid pink new ball and opened the bowling on a grass pitch. The opening batsmen played sensibly, defending the straight balls and waiting for the occasional loose ball. Harry bowled some excellent deliveries, but it was Freddie who got the breakthrough, looping up a slower delivery, which was missed by the batsman and expertly gathered by Regan behind the sticks before stumping the batsman. First change bowlers Safi and Tia came on and the score ticked along steadily until the opening batsman chipped a ball back for bowler Safi to safely hold. This brought a very tall young batsman to the crease. He hoisted his first ball for six over mid wicket and threatened to make a terrible mess of the bowling, but Safi snaffled another wicket in the over – clean bowling an established batsman. Jacob and Andrew bowling tidily, with Andrew picking up a wicket, before last bowler Tom picked up his wicket, caught behind by Regan. The final total was an imposing 186/5.

In reply, Freddie and Tom opened the batting, but unfortunately Tom lost his wicket in the second over after chipping a catch. In at number three was Regan, who played some excellent shots and pushed the scoring along rapidly, out-scoring his partner Freddie, before being caught for 28. Harry came in to bat, but was unable to find the middle of the bat, followed by a brief stay from James. Meanwhile Freddie was still going at the other end. Andrew came in for the last four balls, his first being a hat trick ball, however he cunningly guided this ball between keeper and first slip down to the third man boundary, denying the hat trick. Andrew was run out off the last ball of the innings, with Freddie carrying his bat and being undefeated on 30. Swanage were never able to get up to the scoring rate and finished on 116/5.

Bournemouth 186 -  Swanage 116 - 5 Bournemouth won by 70 runs

Swanage Tigers (U8s) v Ellingham

After many weeks of waiting the Tigers finally played their first game. Captain for the day Lucas Cartridge won the toss and decided Swanage would have a bat. Lucas and Henry Titley opened the batting putting together a partnership of 26 in their 4 overs with some brilliant running between the wickets. They were followed by Sophie Constable and Harrison Bedford who carried on the good work batting well as the score continued to rise. Both pairs lost no wickets which left Swanage at 2424 after 8 overs. Final pair Jenson Chadwick and Dan England started well hitting the ball well and keeping the score ticking over. Sadly a couple of run outs meant Swanage lost 3 wickets and ended on 250 in their innings.

After the drinks break it was Ellingham's turn to bat and the excellent Swanage bowling put the Tiger's on top. A wicket from Sophie was soon followed by a brilliant run out by Dan. Another wicket from Jenson in his second over put Swanage on top but Ellingham slowly pulled the game round going ahead after 10 overs. Despite their best efforts Swanage couldn't get another wicket and Ellingham ran out the winners by 14 runs. A great game to start the season enjoyed by everyone.

Swanage Tigers 250  Ellingham 264  Ellingham won by 14 runs

Swanage Hurricanes (U11s) v Wimborne

The Hurricanes travelled to Wimborne on a wet Saturday morning for their next league encounter. The Hurricanes won the toss and chose to bat first. Wimborne’s opening attack were the best the Hurricanes have faced this season and the ball was skidding through off the wet surface. Owen was bowled in the second over by a quick delivery. James and Dylan battled hard using the pace of the ball to pick up runs. Dylan was bowled for 7 and James was later bowled for 9 having moved the score along to 20. Josh and Sam then put together the highest partnership of the day (60 in 14 overs). Josh played some aggressive pull shots in his innings of 28 (retired) including 4 fours. Sam remained not out 10 as the Hurricanes finished on 81-3 in their 18 overs.

In reply Wimborne got off to a nervous start  against some tight bowling from Lee and Owen. Wimborne only scored 22 in the first 4 overs. Kieran and Josh were unlucky not to pick up more wickets but Kieran got the breakthrough trapping the Wimborne opener LBW for 11. The Wimborne batsmen started to play their shots and the Hurricanes were unable to stop the runs despite good bowling from Lee, Dylan, James and Sam. Seb lead his team well and thought about his field placings whilst doing his best behind the stumps in difficult wet conditions. Wimborne eventually won with overs to spare but still an encouraging performance from the Hurricanes

Swanage Hurricanes 81 - 3  Wimborne 82 - 1  Wimborne won by 7 wickets

Swanage U15 v. Wimborne U15 @ The Leaze, Wimborne 5th June 2019

Wimborne hosted Swanage at The Leaze, making a break from the regular visits to Colehill. A sunny and breezy evening saw the home side batting first on a grass track, with a very short boundary on one side. Harry and Jacob opened the bowling while Wimborne raced away to 45/0 off the first 4 overs. A change of bowling saw Tia and Freddie as first change bowlers. Tia quickly had one of the openers well taken by Harry at mid on, then Freddie had the free-hitting number 3 very well taken by keeper Regan. The next partnership put on 31 runs, with a couple of fairly straight-forward catches being put down by Swanage. Andrew and James were second change bowlers, with Andrew having immediate effect, pushing the ball wide, allowing the batsman to have a wild swipe and permitting Regan to effect an excellent stumping. Freddie came back on and bowled the next batsman, then Harry had the next batsman caught by brother Freddie. A run out and Harry’s LBW decision left Wimborne with their final batsman, who was eventually bowled by Tia, after making 20 and taking the final total to an imposing 150/8.
In reply, Swanage were off to a slow start, taking 4 overs to reach 25 runs with openers Freddie and Harry. Eventually Freddie chipped one up and was caught. Andrew came in at no. 3, but also offer up a simple catch. To be fair, the bowling was pretty decent – accurate and of a good pace. Regan was very well caught on the boundary, going for a hook shot, but not quite middling the ball. Harry finally fell for 8 runs. James tucked a ball round the corner for a juicy boundary before being well bowled. Swanage only had 7 players, so the final pairing was Jacob and Tia, coming together with the score on a hopeless-looking 55/5, chasing 150. Tia started brightly with a sprinkling of boundaries. Jacob started scratchily, before finding his form and really tucking into some poor bowling from Wimborne. Over number 12 went for 22 runs. Jacob and Tia both hit sixes. Suddenly the total looked within reach, with 39 needed off the last 2 overs. In the end Jacob retired for a majestic 36 runs and Tia was not out for an excellent 29 runs. Swanage finished on 137/5.
The match was much closer than first seemed possible. Swanage had only 7 players, but were generously lent 2 fielders by the home side. On another day, Swanage might have won. Too many catches were dropped, but the fielding was good. The Swanage batsmen were able to see off the good bowlers and wait for the very mediocre middle-order bowling of the home side. Overall a good and encouraging performance by Swanage.

Wimborne 150 - 8   Swanage 137 - 5  Wimborne won by 13 runs

Swanage Sabres (U13s) v Poole

Swanage Sabres U13’s continued their winning season beating Poole by 2 Wickets. Swanage won the toss and elected to field first. Sid  and James opened the bowling and restricted Poole to just 10 runs in the first 4 overs. Tia came on to bowl her away swing and was soon amongst the wickets cleaning bowling Poole’s opener. Fearful of the Sabres bowling attack, Poole pressed the self destruct button  and lost three wickets to run outs from Joe, Tom and Dexter. Good spells from Dexter , Joe, Seb and Tom were unable to break through the Poole defences but Freddie 1- 6, Tia 1-8 and Sid, who bowled a tight spell of leg spin returning figures of 4 overs 1-10, were the pick of the bowlers. Mention should also be made of Regan's quality keeping;  standing up to all the bowlers to keep the pressure on the batsmen he moved his feet well and his keeping was very tidy . Poole finished on a below par 102.

The Sabres feeling confident of the run chase got off to a shaky start losing in form batsman Freddie first ball. Joe followed shortly thereafter leaving Sabres 9 for 2 after just 3 overs. Sabres consolidated and then started to accelerate with some powerful hitting from Seb and Tom before Seb was dismissed for 17 (included 4 fours). Tom continued the chase but was caught for 27 (including 6 fours). After Tia was dismissed, it brought together Dexter and Regan who nearly saw the Sabres home.  Regan and Dexter played sensibly and punished the bad balls but Dexter was bowled for an entertaining 15 ( including 3 fours) when the score was on 97. James was caught going for the winning runs which brought Sid to the crease and with two shots from Sid  (a four over mid wicket and a single) Sabres had chalked up their second win of the season. Regan finishing with an unbeaten 26 not out. Another good all-round performance.

Poole 102 - 5   Swanage 103 - 7   Swanage won by 2 wickets

Swanage Pirates (U12s) v Ferndown

An injury hit Swanage travelled to Ferndown with just 8 players on an increasingly cool Monday evening. Captain Jack Battrick won the toss and decided to ball. An attacking innings by Will Earley put Swanage under pressure as Owen and Barney opened the bowling. Barney bowled well to keep the runs down. With Jack into the attack an inspired piece of fielding by Charlie saw the breakthrough with a direct hit run out. His second over saw Swanage get another run out this time keeper Josh Wood hitting direct and suddenly Swanage were back in the match.
A third run out by Jenson, off his own bowling, saw Ferndown effectively 81 - 4 and some tight bowling from Lee and Jenson kept the runs down. Neither Dylan or Charlie could get another breakthrough as the total started rising and Ferndown ended on 141 - 3

Needing a good start Swanage sadly lost Owen in the first over Jack and Josh followed soon after before Lee joined Dylan(15) and they were able to put a partnership together. Jenson (7) was next to join Dylan as they put on 30 together and showed some great running and hitting, Jenson hitting his first 4 for Swanage. Dylan was out in the last over giving Barney a few deliveries at the end  as Swanage ended on 68 - 5 well short of the target but gaining lots of good batting practise for future games.

Ferndown 141 - 3  Swanage 68 - 5   Ferndown won by 73 runs

Swanage Tornadoes (U11s) v Winton B

The Tornadoes travelled to Winton for Saturday's double header and proved to be the Magnificent 7 as against all the odds they secured victory. Once again it was a team of mainly U10s and having got so close last night they were determined do better. With Winton kindly lending Swanage a fielder, as we were one short, Kieran (3 overs for 13) and Thomas ( 3 overs 2 for 6) opened the bowling keeping it very tight. Thomas's second over gave Swanage the breakthrough as he took 2 wickets in 2 balls giving him 5 wickets over the weekend. AJ kept it tight once again only conceding 9 runs in his 3 overs and taking a wicket. Playing in only their second matches Harry and Bradley improved hugely with Harry taking 2 wickets for just 6 runs while Bradley kept it straight and kept the wides down. Cameron bowled much better and once again fielded well getting close to several run  outs. Winton's fielder showed no mercy to their own team as Harvey took a catch and made a run out. With Winton finishing on 79 there was a feeling that today could be our day.

Captain Kieran led the way right from the off supported well by Harry and Cameron. He struck the ball to all parts as he scored 27, including 4 fours, before retiring with Swanage in a strong position but some way to go still. With Thomas unable to carry on with his batting form from the Friday it was left to Josh and AJ to carry on moving Swanage towards their victory total. They quickly realised that staying in was the key as the wides and byes kept coming and they raced between the wickets. Josh was in no mood to get out and resisted all temptation to hit out defending his wicket and making sure he would be there until the end. With AJ finally out and the tension in the crowd rising, Josh was joined by Bradley, who like Josh was determined to stay in. The scores moved ever closer and as the 14th over began the scores were tied. A wide down the leg side gave Swanage victory with Josh 5 not out a score that didn't reflect his contribution to the victory at all. Smiling faces all round for a job well done and a victory which felt as much for the U10s as the U11s.

Winton 79 - 6   Swanage 82 - 4   Swanage won by 4 wickets

Swanage Hurricanes (U11s) v Winton

The Hurricanes continued their season with a home match against a strong Winton team. Winton won the toss and elected to field first. Charlie was unlucky to be bowled in the 3rd over but the Hurricanes consolidated and Dylan and James moved the score on to 61 before James retired on 26. Sam, like his Father failed to trouble the scorers on Saturday,  but Owen and Dylan played well before Dylan was bowled for 20. Owen, with some powerful straight drives was run out for 15 and Max had a cameo innings of 8. Barney and Seb were both not out at the end as the Hurricanes finished on a respectable 103-5.

Despite good aggressive bowling from  Barney and Max, Winton got off to a steady start amassing 28 for the first wicket, before Dylan bowled the Winton opener for 16.  A second wicket partnership over  50 saw the next two Winton batsmen retire on 27 and 25 respectively. The Hurricanes kept plugging away and James got the breakthrough by clean bowling the Winton number 4 for a duck. Owen bowled well and was unlucky not to take a wicket before Sam claimed a wicket in his over thanks to a catch by Charlie. Seb’s wicket keeping continues to improve  every week with some good leg sided takes but despite that Winton ran out the winners  by 5 wickets.

Swanage Hurricanes 103 - 5  Winton 106 - 3  Winton won by 5 wickets

Swanage Scorpions (U10s) v Poole

Another improved performance saw the Scorpions just fall short of that elusive win as they lost narrowly to Poole. Things could not have started any better for Swanage as Thomas took a wicket with the first ball of the match. A second wicket soon followed from Alex, as Eric took the catch and Swanage were in a good position. Great batting by the Poole middle order saw them regain the initiative despite some excellent bowling by Zac (2 overs for 7 runs). Swanage came fighting back with a wicket from AJ before Thomas took 2 wickets in the final over to end with 3 wickets for 15 runs. Josh made some fine stops behind the stumps and the fielding was good once again as Poole ended on 117 from their 18 overs.

Openers Zac and Cameron were determined to give Swanage a good start and both batted well before Zac, after a beautifully played 4 was bowled followed by AJ next ball. Cameron was joined by Alex as they rebuilt the innings before Cameron was run out. At 21 - 3 things looked bleak but with a determined Josh joining Alex they rebuilt the innings with an excellent partnership of 43. As Alex retired on 27 it was left to Thomas (15) to keep Swanage's hopes alive. But with Eric and debutant Bradley falling quickly even Thomas as last man standing couldn't get the Scorpions to victory as they fell 22 runs short. Another good performance and more importantly more experience of hard ball cricket.

Poole 117 - 5  Swanage 95 all out  Poole won by 22 runs

Swanage Hurricanes (U11s) v Broadstone

Swanage Hurricanes entertained Broadstone in a thrilling game at Days Park. The Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat first. Dylan and Charlie saw the Hurricanes off to a steady start putting on 34 for the first wicket. After Charlie was out James and Dylan moved the score along well before Dylan was out for 17 with the score on 64. Sam and James had another 30 run partnership before Sam was bowled . James continued to play some lovely shots and eventually retired on 28 which included 5 boundaries. Owen batted well ,hitting some hard straight drives for four, before being run out for 11. India was unlucky to receive a good ball from the Broadstone captain and Barney and Seb were not out. The Hurricanes finished on a very competitive 131-5 in their 18 overs.
Broadstone’s reply got off to a flying start with 19 coming off the first 2 overs. However Barney, Sam, Charlie and India all bowled well and gradually the pressure mounted on Broadstone and wickets began to fall. A run out by Dylan off the bowling of Charlie removed the Broadstone opener. A wicket from Sam (bowled) and Owen (caught by James), good fielding and some inspired keeping from Seb, meant Broadstone required 7 runs to win off the last over. Up stepped James, who with his first ball took a wicket (caught and bowled); 7 runs required off 5 balls. James them proceeded to bowl 4 dot balls; 7 runs required off 1 ball. James sealed a great win for the Hurricanes by clean bowling the Broadstone bat with the last ball. The Hurricanes won by 6 runs and James’ last over was a double wicket maiden. Well done, a good all-round performance.

Swanage Hurricanes 131 - 5   Broadstone 124 - 5  Swanage won by 6 runs

Swanage Tornadoes (U11s) v Parley

Swanage Tornadoes travelled to Parley for their latest game and were grateful once to th e U10s for making up most of the team. Fielding first, an early wicket by Alex who opened the bowling well with Kieran got Swanage in a good position early on. Dominant batting by 2 girls playing down took the game away from Swanage but once again they kept trying and the bowling continues to become better and better.  AJ conceded only 12 runs in his 2 overs. Eric took his second wicket of the weekend at the end of 3 good overs and the U10s who were playing hugely improved  from last night keeping the wides down to a minimum. Parley ended up on 127 - 2.
Swanage batted well in the face of some good bowling with everybody getting an opportunity to make some runs. Thomas batted well for 8 including an excellent 4 but it was Josh once again who stood out with 13 his second good score in a couple of days - a retirement can't be far away. A much improved Jernimain who hit the 4 of the day before last man standing Harry, on his debut, kept Parley in the field to the end with 10 not out. Swanage finished on 82 losing by 45 runs

Parley 127 - 2  Swanage 82 - 7  Parley won by 45 runs

Swanage Scorpions (U10s) v Hamworthy

The Swanage Scorpions travelled to Hamworthy on Friday evening and put in their best performance to date as they narrowly lost by 17 runs. Bowling first, they got off to the perfect start as cool headed Jamie ran out their opening batsmen without facing a ball. Solid opening overs by Alex and Jernimain kept on the pressure before Cameron and Eric took up the attack. Eric got his first ever LBW with the perfect straight ball but it was in the field that both excelled  once again. Cameron making some great stops and Eric getting Swanage a second run out with a direct hit. He nearly made it 3 run outs soon after with another direct hit with one stump to aim at, but sadly both for him, and the umpiring Tim, the batsmen had got his foot in. Archie bowled his best spell of the season as did Jamie who was rewarded with a wicket thanks to a catch by Jernimain. AJ kept it tight as usual and with Josh continuing to prove an excellent wicket keeper, Hamworthy reached 118. It was the wides that let Swanage down but this was a score Swanage had a chance of chasing down.
Eric and Archie got Swanage off to a steady start before both they and Jernimain fell in quick succession to leave Swanage 15 - 3. Alex (25 retired) and Josh (14) took the attack to Hamworthy hitting boundary after boundary as they pulled Swanage back into the match. Their partnership of over 30 was broken by a run out, the first of 3 in the Swanage innings. Alex continued on with support form Cameron and AJ before he and Jamie came together as the last pair. That third run out left Alex as last man standing. Already near his retirement score he let the wides and no balls build up until in the last over a four and a single allowed him to reach 25 but left Swanage all out on 101. he Scorpions are getting better match by match and hopefully a victory is on the horizon

Hamworthy 118 - 4   Swanage 101 all out Hamworthy won by 17 runs

Swanage Sabres (U13s) v Hamworthy

Swanage U 13's

The sabres finally got their season underway  at Hamworthy. On a wet grass pitch the Sabres elected to field first. Sid and James opened the attack and were soon amongst the wickets with James clean bowling Hamworthy’s opener with only 13 runs on the board. That brought together Hamworthy’s strongest pair who batted well and both retired on 32. Once they had departed Hamworthy looked very ordinary and wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Tia was very economical, only conceding 20 runs in her four overs. Dexter , Joe and Seb all bowled well and were unlucky not to take any wickets. Thomas took  his first wicket of the season thanks to a great stumping from Regan. Joe claimed the next wicket running out the Hamworthy bat with a direct hit.  Freddie came on and returned figures of 2 overs 2 for 4 thanks to another stumping and a catch from Regan. Hamworthy posted a competitive 125 in their 20 overs.

The Sabre’s reply got off to a steady start with Freddie and Seb putting on 32 before Seb was bowled for 5. The Sabres had a minor collapse losing Thomas Joe and Tia for only 11 runs. However Freddie and Dexter steadied the ship and Freddie hit hard before being caught for 25. Regan came to the wicket brimming with confidence after his keeping performance and played some fantastic straight drives. Regan retired on 33 which included 5 boundaries. Dexter supported well and was finally dismissed for 11. This brought Sabres last 2 bats together. The Sabres need 12 runs off 8 balls with 2 wickets remaining. James was run out which left Sid as the last man standing requiring 12 of 7 balls. Sid used all his experience and crunched a four over mid-wicket. Next ball Sid hit another four through the point area. Next there was 2 leg byes which left Sabres requiring just 2 to win with 3 balls to go. Sid sealed the victory in style hitting a straight drive for four and the sabres and won their first match of the season.

It was a thrilling match. This was truly a team effort each and every player contributed and that’s what makes for a great team spirit . We are all very proud of you , well done.

Hamworthy 125 - 5  Swanage Sabres 127 - 7  Swanage won by 1 wicket

Swanage Hurricanes (U11s) v Poole

Swanage Hurricanes hosted Poole in their second league match of the season. Poole elected to field first and were soon amongst the wickets taking the wickets of both Barney and Dylan in the first four overs but not before the pair had taken the score to 19. Dylan’s wicket brought together Josh and Sam who were attacking but sensible. Josh had hit three boundaries by the time he had to retire on 27. Josh and Sam had moved the total on to 75 with a Partnership of 56. Sam soon followed caught behind for 12. Kieran and James  maintained the momentum with Kieran playing a lovely cover drive for four. Swanage finished on 94 for 3 in their 18 overs.

Swanage got off to great start with Barney clean bowling Poole’s opener with  his second ball. Owen came close to taking a wicket but bowled a tight two over spell to keep the pressure on . Josh then took up the challenge and Poole found his pace bowling hard to play. Josh finished with figures of 2 overs 2 for 9. Sam and Kieran bowled well but without much luck as Poole’s big hitters got to grips with Swanage’s bowlers. Despite tight bowling from James and Dylan Swanage were unable to prevent Poole from winning. Swanage should be please with their performance. Their fielding was good and Seb’s keeping is improving all the time.

Swanage Hurricanes (U11s) 94 - 3  Poole 95 - 3 Poole won by 5 wickets

Swanage Scorpions (U10s) v Wimborne and Colehill

After a couple of solid opening performances against good sides the Scorpions faced a real test in the shape of last year's hardball champions Wimborne and Colehill. Sadly it turned out to be a dismal and dreary evening with drizzle and dark clouds as Wimborne amassed 159 in a shortened game. As always the bowlers tried hard but struggled against a strong Wimborne batting line up. Another catch for Jernimain as Alex took a neat catch was the highlight along with a series of better second overs especially form Archie and Zac.
Jernimain couldn't recreate his first week's innings as he fell first ball and he was soon followed by Zac. Alex gave the innings a lift before being out for 5 whilst Archie defended well before before unleashing a great cover drive. Sadly he was out soon after with Josh, Thomas and AJ falling soon after. Last man Jamie showed no sign of getting out and ended unbeaten as Thomas was run out by a direct hit leaving Swanage 20 all out but of course still smiling despite the weather.

Wimborne and Colehill 159 - 1  Swanage 20 all out

Swanage U15 v Poole

Swanage sported a brand new skipper in the form of Captain Hancock for our first match of the new season. A very pleasant evening saw Swanage win the toss and put the home team in to bat. Swanage were only able to field a team of 8, so one player short, but Freddie Long bowled a decent first over, followed by brother Harry with a good yard or so of extra pace from the other end. The home side got their innings off to a flying start before Freddy struck in his second over, having their free-hitting opener and captain well taken by Regan then a few balls later, clean bowling the new batsman. First change bowler Regan struck early, bowling one of their batsman then next ball taking another clean-bowled, only for it to be no-balled. Tia bowled very tightly at the other end, conceding just 3 runs in her 2 eight-ball overs. Sid and James came on to bowl, each taking a wicket caught behind the bat. After 10 overs Poole looked in trouble at 79/5 with five over to play. Spencer bowled a tidy over, but the Poole tail wagged and the ball was sent to the boundary regularly, no further wickets falling and the home side finishing on 134/6.
In reply, Freddie and James made a steady start. Swanage didn’t lose a wicket until the fifth over, however, the scoring rate was rather low, with just 19 off the first 4 overs. Freddy was caught, followed in the same manner by Spencer. James finally fell for 7. By this time Swanage had the big hitters at the crease, Harry and Andrew. The scoring rate picked up markedly, with Harry hitting a huge 6, before a mix-up that his skipper will want to discuss caused the run out of Andrew for an impressive 18 runs. Sid was briefly at the crease with a couple of stylish defensive shots, before a quicker-paced ball took out his stumps. Regan was the new bat and quickly found his form. Harry retired for a very well-played 35, bring final bat in to bat with her brother. Tia stuck a boundary first ball, was was soon after caught, leaving Regan to bat alone, finishing on 18 not out. The final Swanage total was 114/7.
Swanage played well. Both sides batted out their overs. Swanage were in a good position after bowling 10 overs. The Swanage bowling was good. A slow start to their batting wasn’t a problem as there was plenty of firepower down the order. Of course, Swanage were one player down, certainly worth 15 or more runs in the field.

Poole 134 - 6  Swanage 114 - 7 Poole won by 20 runs

Swanage Tornadoes U11s v Ferndown

The Swanage Tornadoes U11s recorded the first win of the year with a convincing performance away to Ferndown. Batting first, an opening partnership of 56 between James (27 retired) and Barney (13) saw Swanage off to a great start. James scored 6 fours including one off the the first ball of the match while Barney batted sensibly to record his best score in hardball cricket so far. After the quick loss of Charlie they were well supported by a determined India (8 no), who batted for 9 overs, and Owen (26 retired). They put on another 50 partnership with Owen hitting 4 fours on his way to his first retirement score. With Kieran hitting a couple of runs at the end Swanage reached an excellent 124 - 2.
In reply Kieran and Max blew away the Ferndown batters as they collapsed to 11-5. Kieran (2 wickets) took a wicket first ball and then another in his second over - both caught  by James., whilst Max (2 wickets for 3 runs) bowled accurately throughout . Good bowling by Charlie and India (1 wicket) kept the pressure on before Owen finished off the game with 2 wickets in 2 balls leaving Ferndown 44 all out.

The game was over in the 10th over so we carried on for a bit of practise but Swanage remained dominant with Owen, Max and Kieran taking more wickets along side wicket keeper Ollie as Barney took over behind the stumps

Swanage Tornadoes 124 - 2  Ferndown 44 all out - Swanage won by 80 runs

Swanage Hurricanes U11s v Hamworthy

On a very cold May morning Swanage Hurricanes opened their league campaign against a strong Hamworthy side. Barney opened the bowling and bowled  well taking 1  wicket for just 9 runs in his 3 overs. Barney was supported by  Dylan who only conceded 12 runs in his 3 overs. Josh and Owen continued the attack each bowling 2 overs and conceded only 7 and 8 runs respectively. Regan bowled a tight spell taking 1 wicket for only 5 runs in 3 overs. James 1-15 and Sam also bowled well but came up against some hard hitting towards the end of the Hamworthy innings. Swanage’s fielding was good throughout but couldn’t prevent Hamworthy from reaching a competitive total of 137 in their 18 overs. Seb Wright kept very well  despite a knee injury sustained early on in the match Swanage’s reply started well with 20 coming off the first 2 overs. Despite the early loss of Owen Swanage continued to push Hamworthy with Dylan playing a mature innings for his 6 runs. Josh  played 2 great shots for consecutive boundaries in his total of 10. Regan came to the crease and played a great inning for the team having to retire on 25 with his last 3 scoring shots being 4,4 and a 6 over mid wicket. Sam and James batted sensibly scoring 4 and 5 respectively. Barney and Seb were the last in (Seb requiring a runner due to his early  knee injury).  Seb made a single but was then bowled. Barney carried his bat with 4 not out and Swanage ended up on 81 at the end of their 18 overs.

Hamworthy 137 - 2 Swanage Hurricanes 81 - 6 - Hamworthy won by 56 runs

Swanage Scorpions U10s v Bournemouth

In their second hardball match the Scorpions (U10s) continued to build on their successes in their first match. Alex and Thomas bowled well at the start of the innings putting Bournemouth under some pressure. Jernimain struck twice in his second over to reduce Bournemouth to 25 - 2. Solid batting brought Bournemouth back into the game as the Zac and Cameron took up the attack. Archie and AJ were next up before Jernimain returned to take his third wicket (3 - 20) before Alex added a well taken caught and bowled. The fielding was much tighter with Cameron making some great stops in the outfield despite a being hit by the ball whilst attempting a catch whilst Eric made an excellent debut as wicket keeper surprising the Bournemouth coach that it was his first time. Bournemouth ended on 129 - 4 from their 18 overs.
Thomas and AJ opened up and like Eric and Jernimain last week showed stubborn resistance as well as some batting skills as they put together 31 for the first wicket. Bournemouth's bowling was tight which made scoring difficult but Swanage did not give their wickets away. Archie - making his hardball debut scored 8 whilst Alex remained 7 not out as Swanage reached 77 in reply.

Bournemouth 129 - 4  Swanage Scorpions 77 - 4  Bournemouth won by 52 runs

Swanage Scorpions U10s v Winton
On a cold, and occasionally wet, evening the Swanage U10’s played their first Division 1 and hard ball match against a strong Winton team. This was definitely a step up from the previous years but the boys enjoyed the match experience and all of them played their part in a good performance. Winton won the toss and decided to field. Swanage managed to score 80 runs from their 18 overs, a score that would have been at least a hundred except for the extremely long grass on the outfield stopping several good shots from reaching the boundary. The batting was led by Eric (13*) and Jermaine (10), with Josh and AJ also getting their first experience of batting against a hard ball in match conditions. In reply, Winton’s scoring was initially restricted by some very tight Swanage bowling. After 9 over Winton had scored 44 runs, so the match could still have gone either way. Unfortunately, Winton then managed to accelerate and won the match in the 14th over of their innings. Bowling honours went to Thomas (3 overs for 8 runs) and Zac (2 overs for 7 runs), backed up by Jamie and Alex, although all of the bowlers performed well. Indeed, it was noticeable how few wide’s and no-balls Swanage bowled compared to Winton. A special mention must also go to Josh who kept very tidily in his first outing as a wicket-keeper. Although the scores were: Swanage 80/3 in overs. Winton 81/0 in 13.5 overs. This did not reflect the how close the match was for much of the time. The boys should be very proud of their performance.
